Should Hatton have fought Cotto

a couple of years back. I remember saying to my brother at the time that Hatton should either fight this guy now, or stay away from him for good.

I think he could have beaten Cotto about 3 years ago, round about the time Hatton fought Tszyu and Cotto had just recently won the WBO title.

The general consensus was for Hatton to stay away if he still want to be a boxer, And am glad he took that advise..There is NO point in my risking getting hurt by cotto even back in 2005.

IMO he needed to fight him back in 2005, he had a small window of opportunity then. He was in his prime and Cotto was still growing and learning.

I think Hatton had a very good chance of beating him back then.

I don't think Hatton would beat either Cotto or Mayweather even if he fought them 1000 times. But that's just me, maybe you are right.

I dont think he would have beaten Cotto at all, Cotto was green but he wasnt struggling to make the weight, He wasnt another 135 pounder who would have been shipped over from argentina for Hatton to pound on while defending his WBU belt.

Cotto was a 140 who was growing fight by fight until he outgrow 140 but stayed there too long.

Agreed but only if the 2005 version of Hatton was the one fighting the drained late 2006/early 2007 Cotto.

If it's the Hatton that fought Tszyu against the Cotto that fought Torres then Hatton should have fought him.

Hatton vs Pinto was arranged for the vacant title, but Pinto got injured. Then for some reason it was Cotto vs Pinto for the belt. Does anyone know why? I don't remember to be honest.

Cotto has always been a good inside fighter, his main weakness back then was fighting out the outside. I watched Cotto-Pinto this morning and even after 2 KDs, Pinto was able to win a round by using his reach and keeping the fight on the outside. I don't think that Hatton would've exploited this so I would give the edge to Cotto.
