There are several reasons to go up in weight.

There are fighters that can make weight at lower weight classes, but choose not to because they want to capture titles at different weight classes. i.e. Pacman, and PBF. They IMO, are fighting out of their natural weight class.

"Natural weight" is considered the weight in which the fighter has the most or best potential and performance. Power, durability, chin, stamina... ect.
i agree with you

Your natural weight is where you are most efficient and where your best form is , in a fighters career his best weight goes hand in hand with his best performances , its wrong to say your natural weight is whatever you are as you change through life , so the term should go right along with your best form as that is your natural weight .

What I meant was your best weight after a full training camp. Not necessarily your walking around weight. But not the weight you had to dangerously dehydrate yourself to make either.

I've seen many posters here make an argument about certain fighters fighting outside thier natural weight class, and i just didnt make sense to me.
I have to disagree. For example, James Toney's natural weight is still middeweight or super middleweight becuase he did not grow out of that division. He ate himself out of that division and figured since he is already that much past his weight class, then why not go up instead of draining all of those pounds? Just take a look at his small frame. Does he even look like a heavyweight? Hes only 5'10 and still has the handspeed of a middleweight. Why? Becuase that is his natural weight class that he is suppose to be fighting at . If he was to get himself back into form, then i could still se him getting a fight with Hopkins becuase 220+ pounds is not where he is suppose to be at. Hope that makes sense.

Guys move up in weight for different reasons. A good contrast is Gatti at the end of his career and Cotto and 140. Both guys struggled to make that weight but the difference being that Gatti's body was worn and shot and couldn't get down safely at the end so he was forced to move up to 147 which was an unnatural weight for him because he was too small/slow.

Cotto on the other hand couldn't make weight because his body was probably growing and getting stronger, so when he moved up he was even better because 147 seems like a much more natural weight class for him. He's sharp, strong and doesn't need to dehydrate so much.

no, what they do is not fight in there natural weight. they always dehydrate 4 a fight, almost all fighters do it. if they fight @ say 147 usaually there true weight class should be @ least 154...ect.

Thats not his natural weight class. Football players lift weights and bulk up to be strong enough to handle themselves on the field. For example, right now i weight 170 but i know that when i have to fight again (in the amatures) then i have to cut back down to 160 becuase i am a middleweight. That proves my point. Light heavyweight is not where i fight at.

Does this look like a heavyweight to you? Look at his small frame.
