    Margarito vs Cotto Analysis

2 top elites going at each other. This is what boxing needs and what the fightfans want.

Not some gayweather the ****** opening his mouth insulting people yet he runs like a chicken to his trainer's pants when confronted by a real challenge.

And last I looked, *****-retired like the coward that he is.

    Margarito.

Margarito knows what he has to do in the ring. He has to make it a nightmare for Cotto. Break Cotto's will, throw punches at a high rate and at the same time withstand the barrage of bombs Cotto will surely bring to the table.

Margarito is a smart brawler/slugger. He uses his height and reach not for movement and evasion but for pressure. A somewhat rare commodity considering his size. Margarito should know that Cotto will not go in there and trade with him. For Cotto to do so would be suicide. Cotto will try to win rounds early and prolong a distance battle for as long as possible before getting dragged into the trenches by Marg.

And dragging Cotto into the trenches is what Margarito should do.

In the past Cotto has shown that he can be buckled and hurt. Torres, Judah and a few others have proven that. Margarito has to push Cotto to the brink and break him. Punches in bunches, from every angle while accepting the reality that Cotto will hurt him.

To try to box Cotto would be ****** and will certainly be the auto-lose scenario for Margarito.

    Cotto.

Cotto has everything a boxer needs to be an elite. All except for a big questionable CHIN. Questionable.

Cotto knows Margarito will test that. Margarito will certainly put pressure on him and break his will to fight. The best way to discourage brawlers is to hit them flush and hurt them. Can Cotto do this?

Cotto needs to use a lot of movement and evasion while dishing out a consistent rate of punches, enough to slow down Margarito. Cotto has to pick his spots, explode on Margarito when he is on a vulnerable spot then fade before Margarito can counter.

The questions that are clouded in doubt are simple.

Can Margarito walk down Cotto and break his will?

Can Cotto evade Margarito whilst dishing out effective punishment?

Personally I admire both fighters. My pick is on Cotto but only by the slightest of margins.

    Reason.

Speed first before power and punch resistance.

Margarito hasn't done anything for him to be considered elite.
    So this thread is inaccurate.

Good post and I think that that's why Cotto is favored because of the speed factor. Speed kills in this game and that's the one thing I am curious to see once the bell rings, how much faster is Cotto than Marg.

In the past, Marg's lack of speed hasn't really hurt him as much as you might think and it's because of his style, he punches in bunches and smothers you.

Cotto's jab will play a major factor, can he land it frequently enough to keep Marg off balance?

For Marg I think he will have to play it more cautious than people think. I wouldn't go in there and just start swinging, Cotto will play counter puncher and take advantage of that. Marg needs to stalk his opponent and work his way in with intelligence and power body shots.

compa i see it the same way. cotto is faster but we are not taking about blazing speed. cottos game is more about power than speed and thats why margarito has to be careful because a cotto body shot could end the fight.

if speed kills then judah would have beat zoo and cotto.

Margarito is the top welter for years before he was defeated by another elite in WIlliams.

Did you mama give you some common sense dude?
