It's a good post... I have to say that the scoring system itself begs for controversy. There should be more encouragement for 10/10 rounds and 10/8 rounds without a knockout. Otherwise it's a guessing game...

The 10/8 round is a tough one. Some knowledgeable people insist you should never give it without a KD. I'm undecided.

Does anyone know why, 10/10 rounds are discouraged?

I'm more inclined to give a fighter who completely dominated a round a 10-8 score then to a fighter who would have otherwise lost the round but scored a KD.

Teddy just gave Mendoza a 10-8 round against lacy without a knockdown

            It hardly deserved it.

              On Scoring

The only thing I go by is clean, effective punching. I don't care if the punch ratio is 3:1 or up to 5:1 in a fight, if I'm clocking you clean and you're not clocking me - I win. Otherwise, any feather fisted fighter or swarmer who throws at a beat of 100 shots a round would never lose a fight (unless KO'd) on activity alone, and that leaves no room for guile in boxing, which has always been a big part of the chess match in the squared circle.

When scoring a fight, one CANNOT listen to the commentators, especially if that commentator is Jim Lampley. He will excite you to the point where your vision will be blurred and will not be able to accurately score the bout.

                For ex:

In the Mayweather - Hatton fight

If Lampley would've been screaming "OH MY GOD!!! MAYWEATHER IS STUNNED!!! MAYWEATHER IS STUNNED!!!", when Mayweather tripped on Hatton's foot, I guarantee people would've scored it 10-8.

Thats very true mate, its really hard to be impartial and objective when you have the commentary on as well.

                      Yup.

and like I mentioned, Lampley is by far the most exciting commentator.
