If you take the fight at face value, he'd be facing another prime, top 10 ranked Welterweight who many seem to think is severely underrated (I don't know why). It wouldn't be a significantly odd choice of opponent, as you seem to think.

go ahead man. no one is stoppin you. but you guys will be the only ones callin him a coward. Floyd was the BEST in the sport choosin to bypass quality of opponents for financial gain which is fine. but Clottey is just as good as Williams and just as dangerous. Even more accomplished by resume standards. Who on William's resume is better than Corrales and Judah if he beats him?
If Cotto bypasses Williams to fight someone like...say....Mayorga or some ****, then yes, the name calling would be warranted. but he isnt.
