Either a Clottey or a Williams fight is a step in the right direction. Both are dangerous fighters, both are in their respective primes. If Cotto beats both Margarito and Clottey in '08 his work at Welterweight is all but said and done. He would have beaten virtually every notable fighter in the division in some capacity. Williams and Berto would be left, but I don't know if Cotto would go for either right away. A DLH fight or something at 154 would be more likely.
I would prefer to see Cotto take on Williams myself
But nothin wrong with Clottey either...
Arum is feuding with Williams' manager, so forget about that happening with Cotto. On the other hand he promotes Clottey, so that would be real easy for him to make.
Arum said to endi.com that if Cotto beats Tony and Clottey beats Zab, He would make a unification fight between the two in November, probably in Puerto Rico.
I think it makes sense if Cotto can’t get the Oscar fight..
If the DLH fight doesn't happen, this would be a great fight to watch. And Arum makes this in PR he can count on two ringside tickets already sold.
If he fight Clottey instead of Williams --- can we call him a duck and a coward?
how could he be called a coward if he is fighting someone that could be as much a danger or even more than Williams? its not like he's skipping Williams and then fighting Hatton or rematching a De La Hoya.
but i know you guys will do so either way even though you know the circumstances do not equal that of your god's.

It would be an odd move to face a guy who lost to your previous opponent...

Clottey lost to Margarito in 2006 where as Paul Williams lost to one of Cotto's previous opponents as well last year. So how would fighting Clottey be more "odder" than fighting Williams? By your own observation, it would make more sense for Cotto to fight Clottey.

What would fighting Clottey prove?
It would be a win against ANOTHER top 10 WW contender who's won his last 6 fights. Nothing against Williams, but he is coming off of a rematch victory.
i see how you guys are going to spin this. go ahead. it will be fun.
