Rocky Marciano... I think he was so successful because of the great punch he could take. Many of his victories came due to ability to take his opponents best shots until he was able to land his big right hand. Same case could be made about Jake Lamotta and even JCC who took a lot of punishment but because their chin held up they were able to come on as the fight progressed.

Your right! That damn left hook to the head and body was amazing. I saw one of his fights last night when he went up to light heavy and he took alot of punishment and dealt out just as much to win the fight by knockout.

A lot of these guys had more then just their chins though.

Jake Lamotta had great upperbody movement. Ali still had a class A jab to help him plus a good right hand. James Toney had amazing reflexes. David Tua had power. Hagler had a lot of things other then his chin.

I'd say Maricano, Mayorga, Baldomir, and Margarito belong on that list. Ross Purity too.

Gerry Penalosa. He became a pro in 1989, he's a reigning world champ, and NEVER been knocked down in his entire career.

He had not lost his power.
That is the last thing to go, and had claimed he was in excellent shape before the fight, and the layoff had really helped him freshen up and get back into prime form.
