you can only judge what you see before you my friend and in fairness Lacy has been appalling since that loss. Its a shame because he had so much potential but boxing is not all about potential its about intestinal fortitude and having the belief in yourself to pick yourself up after such a loss, dust yourself down and say "hey, i lost to a potential P4P great" no shame in that, lets get back to work.
That, unfortunately is what Lacy lacks and without it he will remain a shadow of the fighter he was purported to be.

I don't know that they've been TOO hard on him, I mean he got destroyed (albeit by an elite fighter) and hasn't done anything to impress anyone since. He may have only one loss, but he hasn't looked good in more than two years.

The loss to Joe perhaps perhaps wouldn't have mentally damaged him if the American sports media wouldn't have been so hard on him.

Can you imagine what it must have felt like to read about himself being a "bum" after reading he was the "next Tyson"?

I think he's psychologically humiliated and damaged by all the cruel and unfair abuse he's received since the fight with Joe.

I totally agree Tunney but that just reinforces my theory. If he was confident in his own abilities and didnt place so much stock in the opinions of the notoriously fickle press he should have been able to put it behind him before now and get back to the kind of fighter he was showing himself to be prior to that fight.

If he beat Taylor i would be very impressed and would take back some of my critisism of him. I would not say Taylor is shot, I am more impressed now than I was with him Vs Hopkins, Spink etc.

Lacy should give rematch to Tsypko (the man in my avatar), "LOL" Lacy got a hometown gift in that fight.

I still don't understand how Lacy won that fight with Tsypko. It would be good to see a rematch, they had a NC fight and Tsypko got robbed in their 2nd fight, it would be good to see the 3rd.

The people whol let the Calzaghe fight go 12 rounds ruined Lacy. That obviously should have been stopped at the end of seven.

Whatever Calzaghe did to him, Lacy was never actually that good anyway.

Lacy looked impressive knocking over has-beens, whilst defending the vacant title he picked up.

But to suggest him having a chance against Lacy is pure folly.

I hate to use these analogies, but here goes :-

                      1) Hopkins gave Calzaghe his hardest fight to date.

                      2) Taylor beat Hopkins twice on the spin.

                      3) Lacy was Calzaghe's easiest fight to date.

                      = Lacy defeats Taylor ? WRONG !

= Lacy has a slight chance against Taylor = WRONG !

Jeff Lacy can never regain the greatness... because he was never great in the first place !

He epitomises clever match-making and hype. He is a promoter's fabrication - nothing more and nothing less.

He is hand picked for Taylor's splash into the Super middleweight division.

Froch is too risky to take on, he has huge potential and his KO's are pretty brutal looking and very much legit.

If Taylor fights Froch and loses he's spent.

If Taylor hammers Lacy he gains kudos because people think Lacy is good (for some reason).

For Lacy to improve, he needs to shed a few pounds, hit the road and improve his stamina and get that long jab working again that was so impressive in the amateur game. Like others have said, he goes hunting for the money shot, when in reality he needs to get boxing with brains and not brawn.

I will never forget Calzaghe hammering him and then turning him round. Lacy was all at sea...

...he'd get smacked up and then he'd turn around and Calzaghe was gone..

.. then he'd see Calzaghe and smack his gloves together and then step towards Joe and just get hammered again and turned.... Lacy would smack his gloves together again, get hammered and then he'd get turned again.

                      X Repeat for 12 rounds.

He was like a robot toy that marched forward... Kabary Salem gave Calzaghe a tougher fight and he was journeyman ranked 40th.
