    Hopkins is a hugger?
Hopkins has guile, there's a difference. His work inside is too sophisticated to see him simply branded a hugger.

I think he'll avoid being caught with much clean, and land the right sporadically but clearly.
Let's see how good Kelly's jab looks against Hopkins.
If the judges want to favor Pavlik's activity the same way they favored Calzaghe's, so be it. But I don't see B-Hop getting knocked out. At all.

During every fight you hear that the US judges tend to favour aggression when scoring fights, thats what they did when they scored the Calzaghe fight and justifiably so.
I admire what Hopkins achieved in his career but i cant help but feel its all about the dollar bill now and that saddens me a little.
I understand the points you make translating hugging into guile and i do agree that Kelly is a relatively easy fighter to read but ill still take Kelly to win either by wide decision or KO.
different views is what we have my friend, its what makes debating interesting!

yikes. as a huge hopkins fan, i don't really wanna see this. he may be able to neutralize things, come out unscathed and land a few great counters, but he is really getting too old to handle someone as young and determined as the Ghost and pull out a W...

I never would bet against B-Hop, but this one seems a bit tough. I don't think he'll get stopped, but I'd say that out of all his fights ever, there is a greater chance that it could happen against the Ghost at this stage in B-Hop's career. Still unlikely with B-hops chin and Defense.

Seriously though, even over the last 2 years, B-Hops stamina has gone down a good amount. After Tarver, you had the impression he could go another 15 rounds. After Calzaghe it actually appeared that B-Hop was tired.... he NEVER showed signs of that before during or after a fight....

If B-Hop wins though, he will have the perfect farewell fight. Hopefully it will be in Philly or AC so he can get the farewell ovation the Legend deserves, win or lose, as opposed to getting booed by 20,000 welshmen in his 'final fight'....

yeah the only reason he would bypass Abraham in 2009 is to fight Joe. Here is the rest of the Vindy article:

Calzaghe (45-0, 32 KOs) had hinted at no retirement after the Jones bout. “I hope he’s telling the truth,” Pavlik said. “We really wanted that fight this time but he decided to fight Roy Jones.
        “I’d like to fight him.”
Although Pavlik wants to fight IBF middleweight champion Arthur Abraham in 2009, a Calzaghe bout would take precedence, Arum said.
“Absolutely,” he said. “That’s a much bigger fight.”
Many observers consider Calzaghe the top pound-for-pound boxer in the world, but Pavlik isn’ worried.
“He’s one of the better ones,” Pavlik said. “I would take care of him, though.”

Yeah Pavlik is some fraud for thinking he will beat anyone in front of him.

I'd love to see Pavlik knock Hopkins out. Though I'd rather see a Pavlik focus on MW and fight the likes of Abraham before he goes after the big legend killer money fights.

                    I hear you.

But of course it's about the $$$. What else should make a 40 year old man want to get up and fight?
Doesn't mean he can't still be fascinating to watch. His performance against Calzaghe --- the way he made a fighter hyped up for his speed and his boxing skill and his own spoiling abilities look so bad and clumsy with guile and craft --- was fascinating to me.

I really disagree about the scoring being justified in Hopkins-Calzaghe.
You have to score for effective agression, and there was absolutely nothing commanding or effective or general-like about Calzaghe's aggression on that night.
