People should stop taking FANTASY MATCHUPS so seriously. That DOES NOT negate a fighter's accomplishments and sure as heck doesn't determine one's greatness.

It will always be speculation, no one can say for sure who would beat who. Mainly because it's too difficult to compare diffirent eras, and Boxing can be that unpredictable.

What truly determines a fighter's greatness is his accomplishments in his own era, and respectively look at his own abilities.

Rocky Marciano did everything he could in his era untill his own physical endurance forced him to leave the sport he accomplished everything he could in. His record holds some great names in(they weren't all 'old men') he had plenty of defences, and the manner in which he won by facing so much adversity at times make his wins that much greater.

So please, when you judge Marciano's legacy don't just match him up against other fighters from diffirent eras, looking at size only and base your conclusions on that. It is redicilous and discredits a great man and fighter like Rocky Marciano.

I am glad about this news. He's a legend and deserves it.

of course bush honors the white champion. marciano is overrated and beat all bums and waaaay over the hill fighters. there were plenty of greater heavyweights and guys that could have beat him IMO.

why doesn't the us show som respect to the true greatest- joe louis, who america used up, chewed up and spit out after he gave so much to the
      American people.

When you say it's a "very good point" you're overlooking something. His opposition was approximately the same size wise, so it really isn't "a very good point".

Marciano didn't beat one single fighter, who, at the time hebeat him, would be in the top 50 today. I don't check the lists so I'm guessing a little-it could be top 40, or top 60........Anyway, his 49-0 is mostly fraudulent when you consider his opposition. I'd bet that the "betting guys" made pots of money on his fights.

There's too much loose talk about Marciano, always has been.

And I really doubt that he's be a Super Middle or Light-Heavy, since he was always trained to a "hair". He'd have to cut off a leg at least. He was built like a "fureplug" and when some of the opponents he had were basically boys of 20-22, he was a solid, fully grown, fully developed, adult man. This alone when added to his determination, gave him a large advantage over better skilled boxers.

Don't forget, he had the shortest arms of any heavyweight ever, probably. Which means that they were packed SOLID and HARD.
