ESPN Update - DIAZ NOW IN CRITICAL CONDITION

Wow, I hope he retires because it's not very smart to come back to boxing after this. I'm sure his license will be suspended by the commissions, or at least I hope they'd do this (like they did to Valero and Mesi).Comment

Under he is actually revived, Diaz's condition has to be considered very critical and life threatening. Probably the best case scenario would be similar to that guy who fought Darchinyan and eventually recovered, although this one may be better because they haven't had to induce a comma. The article on ESPN seems to imply that the operation was successful. He's not in a coma or anything like that, yes he is in bad condition and no doubt it's ****ed up, but it seems to me the doctors are doing a great job and not allowing the swelling to get worse. Lets just hope he continues to get better.Oscar came through surgery well," Ron Katz of Rodriguez promoter Star Boxing told ESPN.com after talking to Donna Duva Brooks of Hall of Fame Promotions, Diaz's promoter, who was at the hospital.Full article:
"They had to remove the left side of his cranium in order to help the swelling go down, which apparently was very bad," Katz said. "He had a subdural hematoma [bleeding on the brain], which was taken care of. During surgery, he apparently showed movement in his arms and his brain pressure was very good, according to the doctor."
Diaz was under heavy sedation following the operation, but was not in a medically induced coma, Katz said.

Actually, this sounds a little more serious. Boxing is out of the question for Diaz. They had to remove part of his brain.
At this point lets just hope that he recovers and can lead a fairly normal happy life.
And who knows how Rodriguez will take this, might be the end for him too. Knowing you almost ended someones life probably makes it difficult to step into the ring again.Comment

They had to remove the left side of his skull, not his brain. Cranium is the medical term skull. The skull can be subdivided into two parts: the cranium and the mandible.Actually, this sounds a little more serious. Boxing is out of the question for Diaz. They had to remove part of his brain.

Ahh, well, either way I think he will not return to boxing. They said he took a lot of punches from Golden Johnson and wondered how much he had left. And after this fight it looks to be answered that no matter how much he recovers he should not be allowed in the ring again. Respect to Diaz for his career, but I'd rather see someone call it quits with a situation like this than trying to get back into the ring and getting killed.Comment
