Diaz had surgery to reduce the swelling in his brain.

    It hasn't gone well though.

He is now listed in critical condition.

The article on ESPN seems to imply that the operation was successful. He's not in a coma or anything like that, yes he is in bad condition and no doubt it's ****ed up, but it seems to me the doctors are doing a great job and not allowing the swelling to get worse. Lets just hope he continues to get better.
Oscar came through surgery well," Ron Katz of Rodriguez promoter Star Boxing told ESPN.com after talking to Donna Duva Brooks of Hall of Fame Promotions, Diaz's promoter, who was at the hospital.

"They had to remove the left side of his cranium in order to help the swelling go down, which apparently was very bad," Katz said. "He had a subdural hematoma [bleeding on the brain], which was taken care of. During surgery, he apparently showed movement in his arms and his brain pressure was very good, according to the doctor."

Diaz was under heavy sedation following the operation, but was not in a medically induced coma, Katz said.

I know the word "critical" sounds bad (and it is very serious) but this still may be an upgrade of his previous condition, which means he is actually improving. He and his family and friends are in my thoughts.

I had the TV, but I wasn't really paying attention.
I heard the tone in Atlas' voice change and they showed Lou Duva following them taking him out on a stretcher.
I knew it was serious then.
