I hope he's OK but these symptoms aren't good.

      ESPN Update

Very disturbing news. Their website reports the following:

"He's got swelling and bleeding on the brain, he's unconscious and on a ventilator," Ron Katz of Star Boxing, Rodriguez's promoter, told ESPN.com.

Katz said he had spoken to Donna Duva Brooks of Hall of Fame Promotions, which promotes Diaz. She was at the hospital with Diaz.

"She said the doctors are deciding whether to operate now or try to reduce the swelling first," Katz said. "It's not good. Obviously, he's in all of our prayers."

Diaz is out of surgery but is breathing through a respirator, it's touch and go at the moment.

Let's hope he makes a full and speedy recovery.

I dont know if I should post this in this thread, but if a fighter takes EPO (like Mosley vs. DLH) the stamina greatly increases. So his conditioning might appear to be better than it really is and fighters and corners might think they are able to continue when in reality they shouldn't.

I'm not implying anything in regard to this fight in particular but I hope the governing bodies will start making more test including more out-of-competition tests.

I didn't know that about EPO, I think this has something to do with Diaz having trouble making weight yesterday, he had to take an hour to lose some extra weight.

Ok. I didnt mean to imply anything regarding Diaz and EPO. Testing and EPO might be better suited in another thread.

From this info you gave it could be dehydration. I didn't see the fight but perhaps his corner shoul have been more alert?

I know, it's an interesting bit of information though.

I didn't watch the fight either so I can't tell you about the corner situation, Diaz has been in quite a few battles.

I hope he recovers, it's always terrible when this kind of thing happens.

EPO is THE wonderdrug in endurance-related sports as cycling, cross-country skiing, track-and-field and so on. And no tests are conclusive yet.

EPO is not in question here! If it was then he would be treated for a possible TIA Transient Ischemic Attack aka stroke as EPO boosts your RBCs given you increased O2 delivery hence increased stamina but incidentally increasing the viscosity of blood. The swelling and bleeding is typical Blunt Force Trauma. Some of his past fights have been pretty tough so this may be cumulative damage causing the cerebral injury. I will view fight the after class this afternoon. He definitely is in a life threatening condition! Best Wishes to you Oscar Diaz!
