Oscar Diaz Collapses After Ten Against Delvin Rodriguez

By Cliff Rold - A dark shadow fell over the ring on Wednesday night at the Municipal Auditorium in San Antonio, Texas as 25-year hometown Welterweight favorite Oscar Diaz (26-3, 12 KO) collapsed in the rest period after ten rounds against 28-year old Delvin Rodriguez (23-2-1, 14 KO). Details were sketchy as the bout, ESPN2’s Wednesday Night Fights main event, went off the air but the visuals implied emergency conditions. [details]

I was caught off guard by the sound he made after the ref asked him if he was ok, then he collapsed and wouldn't follow verbal commands. Looked like a brain injury to me, I hope he's just dehydrated.

That looked real bad. His body language was terrible. They asked Diaz to raise his arm and he didn't respond. Lets hope it is something like severe dehydration and keep Oscar Diaz in our prayers.

When the ref asked him if he was ok, Diaz asked the ref if he was OK.

Writer Dan Horgan told me he's in critical condition right now. I pray that he recovers.

I'm worried for him and I'm waiting on pins and needles hoping that he pulls through. I caught some of that fight and saw him take vicious shots to the head, hopefully the immediate medical attention will allow him to walk away from this scary injury.
