    ..If Jones Beats Calzaghe........

What does that do for the Hopkins/Jones comparison?

For years, people have talked about how Jones was the more athletic of the two, and Jones has the win in heads up competition. But, Jones also fought the lesser opponents for the most part and Hopkins reigned sumpreme in his division for a decades span. (Even though, it was a less-than-stellar division)

Jones was known as the more naturally talented fighter, but Hopkins was known as the more intelligent guy in the ring. Though, prime-wise, they both had a fair balance of the two sides.

Jones had multiple titles in multiple divisions. But Hopkins unified and continued to defend.

BUT, though they both rose to prominence, at roughly the same time (Though, Jones shone brighter and was a bit earlier), Hopkins outlasted and reigned as the p4p king for quite some time. A lot of people have Hopkins over Jones right now, in terms of what both accomplished and that alone.

However, if Jones beats Calzaghe after all this, what do you think of the comparison?

I'd have it as a pretty even race between the two.

Hopkins would still be a bit better.

roy was fighter of the 90's

i dont believe bernard was EVER the p4p #1 fighter...

and when he did make it to the top 10, he wasnt there as long as roy was #1...

bernard beating tarver was a great win for bernard because of the jump in weight...

i think as of right now... roy > bernard

whether roy wins or loses against joe

Can you not read? I said, IF HE WINS. It's hypothetical. If you're so sure of him winning, than you should have no problem with a hypothetical question.

Get a grip, and I don't mean on Calzaghes nads, either.

Lol.. Funny thing is, for you, that's pretty balanced. Lol. I'd disagree, but I wouldn't despise you for having this opinion.

what do you mean for me? because i have a roy avatar, im not balanced?

I think roys move from MW to SMW to LHW to HW and back down LHW

is better than bernards 10 yr stay at MW, and his jump up to LHW

on top of that... roy beat bernard...

its not a whitewash or anything... its not like roy ****s all over bernard, but i would rank him higher than bernard

i've always seen it as Jones is the superior fighter, but Hopkins had the better career in my eyes

when i rank boxers all time i base it more around talent than achievements personally so i've always said RJJ >>>

i do think if they were to fight right now Hopkins would win though

I was kidding about the 'for you' thing. Regardless, he didn't just stay at Middleweight, he unified, and there is a BIG difference. Furthermore, NEITHER was truly in their prime when fighting eachother, I just never put much merit into the fight because neither looked like the guy that they became at their best.

It's been said already in this thread but Roy went from MW to SMW to LHW to HW and back down LHW (even though the last one wasn't successful)

Bernard only fought in MW and LHW so i don't really get how you can say Bernard achieved more in his career than Roy.

Not having a go just my opinion

The 'who is better' between jones/hopkins has nothing to do with how each of them perform against Calzaghe. Both clearly are past their primes.

The only logical way to do it is to compare their styles in their prime, how well they dominated their opponents and to compare their resumes and achievements, then make a conclusion based on all that. Calzaghe proves nothing at this point.

It's been said already in this thread but Roy went from MW to SMW to LHW to HW and back down LHW (even though the last one wasn't successful)
I don't know if going up in weight and winning belts are really a good way to measure success imo. I'm not arguing either way but some fighters chose to stay at their weight class for a reason, others can adapt at different weights better then others. Also, honestly it was impressive that Jones did what he did but it was against Ruiz. Hopkins after beating Tarver came pretty close to signing a fight against Maskaev, another weak heavyweight champ.
