why does showtime and hbo always schedule bouts on the same day?

i.e when the light heavys fought on showtime and hbo had cotto/gomez, or pavlik/lockett and the williams/quintana rematch. and theyre doin it again with klit/peter and mosley

especially when its not ppv and the fans aren't paying extra, why would showtime or hbo do that? if they had their own day then they'd get all boxing fans watchin instead of half or whatever

They had previously had an tacit agreement and one had the 1st and 3rd saturdays of the month the other had the 2nd and 4th saturdays of the month.

HBO in order to put further strain on the lower budgeted Showtime started going into dates that were traditionally Showtimes. Its bad for boxing in general.

It makes sense if you feel you have the better product. For example, Showtime scheduling the double header to compete with Mosley/Mayorga.
