1.) A lack of inside fighting.

True to the original post here, Wladimir has been choosing to abandon his inside game, clinching whenever his opponent gets too close, and then choosing to work on establishing reach with his pawing jab and fighting off of it. He does not work much at all inside. Is this to preserve stamina? I don't know, but it's not good in terms of just how little he wants to fight inside. When he goes into instant 'close-clinch' mode, a solid uppercut could really find the mark.

    2.) A lack of aggression.

I like Klitschko. I'm not criticizing him, like some people, because I don't have respect for the guy. He's the best heavyweight out there right now and I like watching him fight when he delivers to his full potential- but to be honest, I don't feel like he is. This goes further back than his last two fights. He got the KO against Brock but, for most of the fight, he was being very cautious and measured up until that point. A good knockout erases any wrongs, though, so people forget...it's been quite awhile now that Wladimir is not being as aggressive as he once was. The thread starter is correct. Now, part of this is the fact that Klitschko is trying to preserve his stamina and now prefers accuracy over aggresion -but he fails to smell blood and finish guys that are ready to go. He could've knocked Thompson out several rounds earlier, I feel like he could have knocked Ibragimov out clean, and Brock could've eaten it just like he did but much quicker, too. It's not hate- it's objectivity. Klitschko seems to value safety above all else- I think part of this is his intelligence. That big old, multi-lingual brain of his is working overtime and knows that it's game over if he loses now- so he's taking the 'w' above all else- in short, he's afraid to take any risks. Why is that a problem? Well:

1.) No inside game gives his opponent a place to be effective.
If someone works inside on Klitschko they'll be able to- at least with his current fight plan- nail him if they move smartly before he can clinch. One good, hard shot, or the accumulation over a night, can really spell trouble for Wlad. He has a bad chin and, at least, can lose sight of his own rhythm if his opponent works well inside.

2.) Keeping a live opponent in front of you is always dangerous for a heavyweight.

This is a division of big men. Big men with lots of weight to throw behind a punch and some serious power. This with a champion whose biggest weakness is his chin. It's hard to ignore the offense that got Wladimir this far, but that's often what he's doing. This safety first mentality is dangerous when you have a hard puncher - one punch can change a night and not finishing someone you have the ability to finish is almost more dangerous than being more aggressive, despite Klitschko trying to be defensive and safe. It's just not a good idea. Manny has yelled at him for this before.

So, yes, Haye and other boxers with decent pop pose a serious threat. I'd prefer to see David fight someone else first to measure how he does at the weight, but to dismiss him outright based on Wlad's last few performances is silly.
this is one of the most pertinent points i have read about Wlad since i have been here, whilst watching the fight i was smiling at the amount of opportunities Haye would have been able to take to get in huge power punches to Wlad.
I really hope Wlad beats Povetkin so he can defend against Haye, im starting to come round to the fact that Haye has a chance of becoming the HW champ of the world!.

I'm not sold on Haye being the guy to get the job done...but I think I agree on your general arguments. Klitschko hasn't made me completely happy in his last few fights, mainly because I like him and want to see what I feel is his best every time out....

I'm not sure who said this but someone mentioned they dread seeing Haye win because, if he did, the door would open for blown up cruiser weights to invade the division and it'd take years before real, natural heavyweights ruled again- and I agree. I'd hate to see that happen.

I agree entirely, Enzo Macarinelli is already talking about making the move up and that is not something im looking forward to at all. I still think Haye is a more natural HW than most @ cruiser but your point is still very valid. However the HW division deperately needs some life breathing into it right now because if the standard of the fight Saturday night is what we have to look forward to then HW boxing is in a world of trouble.

Haye should fight Herbie Hide before he gets himself KTFO by Wlad.

This version of Haye would beat a prime Thompson, Thompson is a very underrated fighter whos been in some wars. That loss believe it or not has made Haye a much better fighter, before the fight Haye thought he could just walk in and KO anyone, he punched himself out couldnt even keep his hands up he was that tired and was stopped on his feet. After that fight he worked on his stamina, threw less punches per round and trained harder.

I think if they ever fight, Haye will destroy klitschko by forcing an inside fight, Klitschko will panic when he encounters Haye's ability to close the gap with his exceptional footspeed and force an inside fight! Haye will just need to work on keeping that left hand high and working on better head movement.
Haye will destroy Klitschko with short hooks and uppercuts, i then see Haye causing a stoppage against the ropes.
