Duran fought dirty but he got away with it so I will say top 10 like 8 or 9th. If they didnt allow him to use that head so much he might of not been a top 50 fighter of all time. He also used his knees too.
Ali,Johnson, Louis, and Armstrong all were better. Pep maybe too.
Ali is a great heavyweight but Duran fought naturally much bigger guys. Duran not only fought the naturally much bigger men but he fought some ATG's coming up 2-4 weight classes.
Other fighters have come up in weight and fought Champions but Duran did it and fought ATG's and won or competed at a very high level. Not to mention he was getting older too.
Come on imagine if PBF came and beat Pavlik. Thats what Duran did when he beat Iran Barkley.
This doesn't even take into account his wins over Ken Bucanan and DeJesus and other wins at his more natural weight.

I think you have some of that twisted. Duran for a lot of his career took on guys a lot smaller than he was. I believe I read that before he met up with Leonard, Duran had an amazing ko rate because most of the fighters at lightweight he took on were actually men from smaller divisions. As soon as he moved up to welter Duran had trouble knocking out people and his first 5 fights at that weight were descions. Duran was known to fight dirty and push guys around by hugging them against the ropes(hatton style) and even use his head and knees. With that being said at lightweight he was amazing and that is why I ranked him between 8-12 best ever. Not bad for a man that used to brawl in the streets.
Not to mention a lot of Durans fights at lightweight were against not so great opponets. A lot of unknowns during his reign.
But the thing is can you name a lightweight that he should've fought? He fought them all from LW to middleweight. He fought all the greats between those classes. Name me another fighter that won his first belt at LW that could've even finished the fight against Hagler (possibly the greatest MW ever) and a LW stood there didn't run and ****** it out with him.
