Paul Williams is no walk in the park for Pavlik. Why don't we wait until the 27th of September to see what happens?! Before the Jermain Taylor fight, Pavlik was pretty much a nobody. Now all of a sudden, people are talking about him like he's an unstoppable force. Many of us haven't seen much of him before the Taylor fight. And I'm sure some of you are going to say you've been following his career before the Taylor fight. STOP!!!! The only thing you know about Pavlik is what's available on the internet. So all you so called experts.......WAIT FOR THE FIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Because if we waited till the day of fights to talk about them, NSB would be dead. Don't you think?
I'm a fan of both guys. I also understand that Williams has a chance to do something historic here.....doing it old school by skipping the jr.middle division.
I also see these fighters the same way. Williams is a smaller version of Pavlik in the welterweight division. The guy who has a good chin and is bigger then everybody else.
And when he fights Pavlik he will be the smaller guy for the first time. He has no punching power at 160 and his boxing skills aren't the best to hanle Pavlik.
It's a foregone conclusion that Pavlik will beat him, the only question mark is can he knock The punisher out. Maybe Paul's chin holds up even against The Ghost....who knows.
Thats why i was wondering why did pavlik/Arum took the risk of fighting Williams, He wouldnt get any credit if he beats Williams IMO.
Thanks that was the point i was trying to make.
He will get credit from me. Any true fight fan will credit him with the win. You can always tell who the hypocrites are from boxing fans. This isn't some absurd fight that shouldn't be fought. I by no means ever talk big about a fighter and say he will win, and then discredit him if he loses. I care about my opinion. These are 2 world class fighters fighting. It happens all the time in boxing.

Good post. Isn't this fight what boxing is supposed to be all about too?
My problem is that it seems Williams is being criticized for taking this fight? Why? I find it to be a fascinating fight. I want to see if Williams can pull of what he did to Margs to Pav.
People seem to forget TWO MAAAJOR things about Paul Williams.
1: He regular weighs in at over 160 for all of his fights......I think I heard something like 173 one time....The MW limit is obviously 160, so he obviously not only dieted but had to dry out A LOT, which is why he faded against Margarito. So his walk around weight is probably around 180 or higher...
2: He's a southpaw. If he can box while moving to his right, way from Pavlik's strongest punch his right hand, he can make that punch ineffective.....and Pavlik looked bad against Taylor in the second fight when Taylor was boxing, not just standing there.
maybe they realized his time had come at welterweight and this was the best paying/reward out there. He will be destroyed unfortunately and probably forced into 154 division.
