Roy can beat Joe at this stage but he'd almost have to fight flawless and know when to let his hands go.
The thing I wonder about is Roy can win, but will Roy do enough to win?
I say Joe Cal outworking him for decision win.
Roy seems to give up rounds when he doesn't have to. He can't afford to do that against Joe.
Joe may win just on workrate alone.

Bernard was able to bring down Joe's workrate but still wasn't active enough. I thought Bernard was going to give Joe a few of the mid rounds(gave up too many IMO) and really let his hands go in the 10-12th. He sort of did but Joe seemed a bit faster in exchanges. And it was still close.

Roy's gonna have to train like a madman if he wants to win this fight.

Calz has such a high level of activity I just see Jones turtling in the ropes and covering up as he always does against volume punching. Calz UD Jones.
But like you said, its easy for Jones to look good against Tito because Tito just stood there... its also easy for Joe to look good flurrying away on manfredo... Against Roy, he isn't gonna be flurrying as much as YOU think... his workrate wont be as high as it is in his usual supermiddleweight defenses... hes 36, hes moving up in weight... and hes fighting one of the best...

obviously an AGED veteran, but nonetheless... one with enough tricks up his sleeve that you don't necessarily wanna go in there and start flailing away on Roy... it might be the last thing you wanna do...

The Manfredo fight was a crock of **** and shouldn't have been stopped that early. In any case, Jones' win over Tito was much much more significant for obvious reasons.

One thing though, this late in a one's career a boxer will fight that only way he knows how. In Calz case that's volume and flurries. He already went up to face Hopkins and it didn't look like the weight affected him one bit. He will do just that on fight night.

I echo what I read in this thread that Jones' ability to pull the trigger is a huge question mark. It's his preference to cover up, weather the storm and wait it out that pretty much convinces me he'll lose on points.

If Jones is sharp enough to make Calz think twice about coming in, then he can go to work. But if a cunning old wolf who has all the tricks in the book in Bhop couldn't make Joe stand still, I don't know if Jones can fare better. In my opinion, weight won't be an issue and Calslappy wins based on activity.

thats fair enough.... ive watched bhop vs joe... the last half of the fight... all bhop had was one straight right punch at a time.... and by round 8 they were slow and looping...

No combinations, not anything... Joes work rate was completely different being 36, fighting at LHW, and fighting a veteran like Bernard... is Roy just as slick as bernard? of course, he also most likely has more gas in the tank, and more stamina... his hands are faster... and hes on the same level of a fighter, if not better, then BHop...

If Roy shows up, and has no respect for Joes power... meaning if hes gonna try and counter FAST and SHARP when Joe comes walking in with his flurries... then its gonna be a long night for Joe...

If Roy covers up too much, and doesnt punch enough, then hes going to lose...

In my eyes, the fight is completely dependent on how much of Roy will show up... if he shows up in shape, motivated, and wanting the win... its gonna be a fight..

I would agree with this. The only problem is that I haven't seen this Roy since Woods and Ruiz.

I just think its better if we don't get our hopes up too much. I just hope Roy goes out there and does himself proud. He has nothing left to prove IMO. I don't even think winning does a great deal for his legacy. I have him borderline top 5 p4p all time and I don't think the outcome of this fight is going to alter that.

Not elusive as he once was, but looking at that video he looked pretty impressive. Those right hands were still lightning fast and his combinations were still pretty impressive. I liked that defense he used in that fight. Keeping his guard up high and blocking a lot of Tito's shots. I still think Calzage beats him, but I will be rooting for Roy.

Silencers, you have nothing bad to say about NOBODY.
What the hell, man? Can't you get mad about one fight?

Roy is going to need to let his hands go, 4,5 punch flurrys, i didn't see much of this against Tito.
