Roy Jones Jr. vs. Joe Calzaghe is Set, Sam Peter Next?

The light heavyweight contest between Joe Calzaghe (45-0, 32 KOs) and Roy Jones Jr. (52-4, 38 KOs) appears to be a go for September 20. Instead of Las Vegas, the event will likely take place at New York's Madison Square Garden. The card will be televised by HBO pay-per-view, as expected. [details]

Jones added that after the Calzaghe fight, he would like to go back up to heavyweight, where he made history by winning a title against John Ruiz in 2003 to become the first former middleweight champion to win a heavyweight title in more than a century.

His target: Samuel Peter, who owns one of the heavyweight titles.

"They call Samuel Peter 'The Nightmare,'" Jones said. "I'll give him a nightmare. I like to do stuff people think I can't do. But I am really looking forward to fighting Joe first.

If Jones offed Joe Calzaghe and the moved up and embarassed Peter, I don't think they would be any way you could not have Roy as the GOAT.

"I beat Joe.. I'm back on top"

"I beat Joe.. I'm back on top" Remember those words.. its been a long road for one of the greatest fighters of ALL TIME. After 2 KO losses everybody thought "THE MAN" was done. Now he has a chance to beat one fighter to be back on top. It appears that Jones is viewing this one fight as his chance at redemption.. which could be BIG trouble for Joe Calzaghe.

I would not support RJJ's decision to move to heavyweight if he beat Joe C.
                  At all.

Thios is very odd indeed. I don't want to see Jones fighting Peter at all.
