i give him credit for the judah and mosley victories even though judah was coming off a string of losses and inactivity and got low blowed 5 times.. and mosley is semi old.. Cotto showed he could box and switch it up and he has the will to win.. but he is overrated..

Sin City can you honestly tell me Cotto has the best resume at welterweight? Can u tell me his stint at welterweight is better than mayweather or judah's?
    that's the question..
im not saying Miguel sucks im just saying is ball sucking fans overrate him and his accomplishments

you are insane if you think Judah's and MAy ww RESUME come CLOSE to Cotto's

Cotto won all of his fights at welterweight but Judah fought better fighters.. Mayweather's resume is better than Cotto's at welter.. Floyd could of fought more and better fighters too at welter.. but i constantly see people overhype Cotto's welterweight resume like he fought sugar ray robinson or something

Whenever I go thru these different threads i often see people saying Cotto has beat top opposition at welterweight and this and that.. I respectfully disagree.. I think his stint at welter has been overrated by his fans.. Im not saying he didnt fight anyone good, im just saying he didnt beat the best..

Oktay Urkal - a veteran boxer, good but not great.. not really a proven champ he lost all his fights against good competition.. he's one of those stepping stone fighters

Zab Judah - A fighter with all the skills but lacks mental toughness and had been coming off a string of bad losses and inactivity.. Even with that he could of handed Cotto his first loss and the dynamic of the fight may have been different if he didnt suffer from those multiple low blows..

Carlos Quitana - a decent fighter many people thought he would beat cotto..

Shane Mosley - a good fighter when he was younger.. relied on his speed and athletic abilities kind of like judah.. he was a game challenge and is a proven champ and some argue he beat cotto, even though i believe cotto won..

Alfonso Gomez - to me he was a C- fighter.. Known for being on the contender, has decent skills but isnt really fast and hasnt accomplished anything and isnt a threat.. his best quality is his strong chin..

none of the fighters were the ring welterweight champs at the time or ranked # 1

we can compare it to Judah's resume at welterweight or even Mayweather's and there resume is greater if not equal to Cotto's in my opinion
All of this is fair enough, but whether Cotto's run is overrated or not depends on what people say about it. I don't think anyone claims its absolutely worldbeating, just that he's beat most of the better fighters in his division, none of whom were absolutely top of the line at the time he foughtv them, so really I don't think those wins are overrated. Realistically, what better set of welters could he have beaten? He's fighting Marg soon and that only really leaves Williams.

I think we should hesitate before being so quick to say "who has he beat?", "his record is overrated" and such about as many boxers as it is said about. It presupposes that in any weight division there is an endless line of proven elite fighters waiting to be knocked over. That isn't how it is. The reality of boxing is that you prove yourself to be the best by emerging from the muddle of aging champs, rival contenders and even journeymen as the one with your record intact, which is exactly what Cotto has done so far. If at this stage there are other fighters who have done the same in or around your weight class then thats when you start looking for the huge fights that elevate you to the very highest level. For Cotto the only fight that could conceivably do this is Floyd Mayweather, so he still has a way to go.

Miguel Cotto's resume is wayy better then Mayweather's in the division.. the only two people he has on his are Judah and Baldo. That doesn't add up to anything Cotto has done in the division.

btw Gomez was a tune up/stay active fight..

Who has Mayweather fight or wants to fight? nobody.

And you are right.. Mosley is old but so is DLH and Mayweather fought the Name DLH but did not fight the fighter he used to be so he gets no credit for that either.

dont forget about giving him credit for the quintana fight cause quintana at the time had beat a uprising star in joel julio who was undefeated and then u see what happened when he fought paul williams the 1st time..cotto exploded quintana and paul couldnt even do that 1st time around..

this thread is ridiculous for the simple fact that anyone's resume can be picked apart and criticized in this manner.
