26 ko's in 32 fights should more than answer your questions. Cotto knows how to finish his opponents off.

If he sees his man hurt he will just wait around because he knows he will do it again. Anyways my question. How can Cotto take that approach against Margarito? Wouldnt Cotto have to take him out right away if he hurts him? Wouldnt it be dangerous to let Margarito hang around and give him chances?
Cotto has to pick his times to attack and be the good counter puncher he can be on the back foot ,if he stands infront Marg he will run into trouble IMO

cotto is alot smarter than people give him credit for the reson has has so many stoppages is cos he knows when exactly to take an opponent out if he has marg hurt he will gauge how badly hurt he is and decide whether to go for the kill

Exactly, an example of this would be the 9th round of the Cotto vs. Judah fight when Judah took a knee, Cotto knew he had him hurt but didn't go out for the kill just yet, but in the 11th round after he knocked Judah down he knew he could go out for the kill without getting hurt.
