He has good skills and is a well conditioned athelete, but he doesn't have the chin for boxing.

As far as i can tell, you get hit in UFC clean then your going over.
His chin may be alot better getting hit with boxing gloves.

so is he doing 4 rounds? i think he'll do well for a bit, but he'll come up against someone with a **** eventually and his weak chin will become all too clear. If he comes up against a fighter with a decent amatuer pedigree he could be outboxed as well, his defense isnt all that great

Have you seen him get KO with boxing gloves? You see the diffirence between MMA and boxing gloves?

but grappling ability? everyone knows andrei's grappling is limited to submission defense. don't let that sylvia victory fool you, andrei is NOT a submission specialist. forget all that sambo champion BS, as it has had very minimal to do with his overall success in the past. his fists have always been his main tools. andreis grappling ability is the equivalent of wanderlei's silva so called "black belt" in jiu-jitsu.

and "great understanding of boxing"? let's not push it buddy. to have a great understanding of ANY sport, you'd at least have to compete in a single bout. .

Agreed, Arlovski has a great understanding on boxing maybe in the MMA world but boxing world? Nope.

His grappling ability is enough to keep him out of trouble...its not great by any means. Its really apparent how he deals with ground fighters. As you said, Arlovski's success in MMA is because of his boxing. I have to give credit to Mike Garcia at JAB for turning Arlovski into a top 5 maybe 6 HW in the world. Since Arlovski was training with Garcia his striking improved greatly. Also Arlovski is one of the few HWs out there that actually comes into a fight in shape. Hes very fast and doesnt gas. Very solid 6'3" 235 lb guy.

I think Arlovski has hit a glass ceiling in MMA with his concentration in boxing. If he could actually utilize this so called "World champion Sambo" techniques then he would be unpredictable and much more dangerous. But he doesn't and that was apparent with his gameplan against Sylvia. Who the hell would use a strict stand up game plan against a 6'8" 260 lb guy with a great chin? This is 4oz gloves .....not a good idea.

Ricco Rodiguez is a former UFC heavyweight champion who has also boxed. Currently he's 1-0 1ko.

just researched a couple of videos. im assuming he's gonna be a heavyweight? he's already going to be more athletic than 90% of the heavyweights out there. he has quick hands and good footwork. should be interesting.

I've never seen him fight, but I know that most of the UFC fighters have no technique at all. Him working with Freddie Roach is a good thing, but at the end of the day, they're going to have to put him in with quite a few tomato cans before he can sharpen up his technique. KO'ing someone in standup of an MMA fight is one thing, but doing it in a world class boxing match is totally different.
