His win over Kostya came at a cost. Kostya knocked the **** out of him that night and Ricky just ate it up and made him quit. Ricky was awesome, but hasn't been quite the same since. It was a hugely damaging fight for both men. I still think Hatton should have been DQ'd for the low blow. He knew he wouldn't have gotten away with that against Mayweather. Even without Cortez's awful officiation, Ricky woulda got KO'd.

People like to say that Paulie has no power, but that is not entirely true. Just because he doesn't have knockout punching power doesn't mean he isn't strong. He knocked down Lovemore N'dou, who IMO is a better fighter technically than Ricky Hatton. Into my list of the top 5 reasons Ricky Hatton will lose to Malignaggi:

          1. His best defense is a clinch. Ricky Hatton was ruined before the Tszyu fight, look at the early rounds of that fight, he was afraid to get hit. And,
          2. The only time his offense is effective is when he pushes and bulls with his arms, then when his opponent is off balance he works his offense. Any competent referee will see this and it won't be allowed, like in the Mayweather fight.
          3. Ricky may never be the same, he's coming off a KO loss
          4. Malignaggi has looked less than impressive in his last 2 fights. He may feel like he has to prove something and he looks best in his most important fights.. (1st N'dou fight, the Cotto fight)
          5. Malignaggi's boxing ability. Hatton throws wide shots and it's going to be very hard to find Malignaggi. Plus hes gonna be sticking his left jab all night, and Ricky's gonna be there all night.

With that said, the only way I can see a Ricky Hatton win is if he fights VERY dirty and the rules of boxing aren't upheld. That, and if he catches him with a extremly good body shot. Ricky isn't accurate enough upstairs, unless its a one punch knockout.

It's funny that the same people that disregard J.Calzaghe's lack of power are the same ones that knock Malignaggi's.

He saw the change in Hatton's nature after the 2005 title winning effort over Kostya Tszyu.
So he didn't bother watching the Carlos Maussa fight?

People like to say that Paulie has no power, but that is not entirely true. Just because he doesn't have knockout punching power doesn't mean he isn't strong. He knocked down Lovemore N'dou, who IMO is a better fighter technically than Ricky Hatton.
So Lovemore N'Dou is a better fighter than Ricky Hatton? Ok.

            1. His best defense is a clinch. Ricky Hatton was ruined before the Tszyu fight, look at the early rounds of that fight, he was afraid to get hit.
Hatton's gameplan against Tszyu was not to get caught by anything big early on and take him into the trenches in the later rounds. You think not wanted to get hit clean in the first round by one of the recognised hardest pound for pound punchers in the sport equates to being "ruined"?

            2. The only time his offense is effective is when he pushes and bulls with his arms, then when his opponent is off balance he works his offense. Any competent referee will see this and it won't be allowed, like in the Mayweather fight.
Ricky didn't get a chance to foul in the Mayweather fight because Cortez was all over him like semen on a frat-house sofa. Mayweather was able to foul with impunity while Hatton was prevented from fighting at all. Besides which Hatton's offense was far more effective against Lazcano, Tackie, Urango and Castillo and even Mayweather when he was using his feet, moving laterally and slipping punches and countering.

            3. Ricky may never be the same, he's coming off a KO loss
No he isn't, he's coming off a near shutout decision win. Besides, didn;t you say that Ricky was done before the Tszyu fight?

            4. Malignaggi has looked less than impressive in his last 2 fights. He may feel like he has to prove something and he looks best in his most important fights.. (1st N'dou fight, the Cotto fight)
If I was in Malignaggi's camp I would be concerned with the angle he is taking. Unless he's simply throwing out a red herring he's implying that Hatton is ripe for the taking in and he's going to go for the knockout, and if he's serious about this he's getting starched. Could Malignaggi outbox Hatton to a decision? I honestly don't think he could, I don't think he is disciplined enough to avoid being pulled into a fight.

            5. Malignaggi's boxing ability. Hatton throws wide shots and it's going to be very hard to find Malignaggi. Plus hes gonna be sticking his left jab all night, and Ricky's gonna be there all night.
Hatton could find Mayweather, while Malignaggi was getting hit clean all night by N'Dou and Ngoudjo. Perhaps you have a very low opinion of Hatton but Malignaggi isn't that good a boxer.

Paulie will destroy Hatton as long as the ref doesn't allow bearhugs, bodyslams & suplexes...

Awesome post, that's as close as you get to a comprehensive rebuff. I would green K you but I'm all used up today.

I went out on a limb and predicted a Hatton decision over Mayweather in a contentious and close battle. I acknowledged that Hatton was the underdog and should be treated as such.

Hold on... Are you picking Malignaggi to beat Hatton now?
