He matched McCallum blow for blow when Mike was still a boxing SCIENTIST

You sparred him. So did you win some rounds or did he whup on you?
Is that gonna be in the book?

Well, they said that before too. I can bring up many old articles where past prime fighters are criticized for destroying their legacies... Needless to say, they really didn't as we now know.
No one, aside from some ignorant fans, says that Ray Robinson (or Ali) was a bum because he lost fights at the end of his career.

It is what it is, I'm certainly not going to judge Toney, or Roy, based on their next fights, whatever the results may be. Unless they win of course, that would be something amazing.

I sparred JT and won some of our rounds, definitely. He would admit that, too. James is a REAL guy. Sometimes we would spar SEVEN minute rounds with each other and this was during the summer of 1993, very hot in Michigan and the Poconos where we were. I had my good days and not so good days, too. I remember one day in Michigan I had a good day and afterwards he was yelling out loud in the gym, "'All you Detroit Punk B***** here and I had to get a WHITE BOY to come here and give me some good work!"

On as scale of 1-10, how hard was it to hit James?

I felt like I could hit him with single punches on a rgular basis, especially the straight or the lead right hand....but hitting him with three and four shots at a time wasnt happening often LOL....one thing I remember (I talk about it in my book and include diary entries from that day) is a day in July 1993 at the end of a particular round when we both got into a groove and let LOOSE with a huge flurry of shots for about 20 seconds straight...I remember just letting go with right hand-left hooks...right hand-left hooks, over an dover...getting hit and coming back....reminds me now of those boxing video games you play...it was fun and -TRUE STORY- right there in the middle of it, while we were ****ing it oput- I was saying to myself "This is just like Hagler and Hearns!" LOL

That's one of the things I noticed in a lot of Toney's fights, he can get hit by the first shot but his opponents can rarely hit him with any follow up shots.

Thanks for the great read! That's cool that you sparred with him. James Toney was a great fighter. I hope he brings it all to Rahman.
