Abner Mares doesn't agree with you either.

barrera is pretty flat footed.
mijares can move around and mares was trained by floyd mayweather sr for a while and he taught him footwork.
against you are pointing out the exceptions to the rule...the majority of mexican fighters are textbook and stiff but they come forward and are tough as nails and dont quit.Comment

Well Domain I think you are confusing style with technique.I notice that the Puerto Rican fighters have better technical skills and footwork then the majority of mexicans.
Mexicans have that traditional straight up no special effects type of boxing.
You can see the difference.
Mexicans are tough ass fighters though and love to brawl if they have too but many of them are too up right and stuff like Soto, erik morales, barrera, and jmm no head movement at all.
I think the Puerto Ricans can mix up there game instead of being just textbook, like Ivan Calderon, Miguell Cotto, and juan ma-lo lopez.
The Cubans have also a very different style they know how to improvise and mix things up to be un predictable and slick like gamboa and casamayor.
For example, I do agree that Mexican fighters have a more flat footed style, more in your face, ****ing style, I agree.
Puerto Ricans have a more fluid style, on their toes type style, that is more related to the way American black boxers fight.
But to say one is more "technical" than the other is very wrong. JCC was an incredibly technical fighter, he would never waste punches and was a surgeon with his strikes. JMM is very similar as was Barerra.
I think you see "style" and "technique" as the same thing and are equating "skill" with one or the other. You can have a come forward type style and still be a great technician with alot of skill.
It just depends on what your strengths are.Comment

i'll agree that puerto rican fighters tend to be better stylistic boxers (american style) than mexican boxers. whereas mexican boxers used to have the reputation of slugging it out, i think that is slowly starting to change with the inception of boxers like marquez bros, sal sanchez, ricardo lopez, humberto soto etc...still, i believe puerto rican boxers have a better amateur program than mexico's.
as far as measuring a mexican's fighters and puerto rican's fighters heart, there is no difference. both are warriors with the same will to win!Comment

Marquez has no head movement? Are you ****ing kidding me? Did you NOT see the 12th round of the second Pacquiao fight? He was moving his head and ducking under virtually any shot. How is that NOT moving your head? And this is in a tough fight, in the final round.I notice that the Puerto Rican fighters have better technical skills and footwork then the majority of mexicans.

How can you get knocked down three times and then salvage a brawl against the worlds BEST boxer, and not have any technical skill or head movement?
Barrera made one of the most impressive transitions in modern time in terms of switching from brawler to a boxer-puncher. He displayed this against one of the biggest punchers p4p at the time in Naseem Hamed and continued to do so by beating a great fighter in Morales in one of the best trilogies in the last 20 years. Beat a young buck in Juarez and has fought countless p4p fighters.
Morales actually has a very underrated counter-punching skill. Most people just see the fiesty combinations and the will to win, they forget to notice that he does most of this after the other guy throws the first punch. And he had a great career doing it. You don't do that without the technical skill to help you. It's impossible.Comment
