if the two fighters were to get in shape and meet up at in the ring tomorow i think that mikelwould take a close split desicion. taver is a good fighter he can put combo's together and has a decnt jab buti dontreally see anything speicla in either his punches or his boxing brain. alot of his legacy is built on the KO of RJJ - knocking out a legend doesn't make you a legend. but you have to give tarver credit he has beaten nearly every other good fighter at 175 - my point is though that he hasn't looked exceptional while doing so - he hasn't outclassed them in the way that RJJ has so often done, in the way calzaghe did vs kessler and lacey.
he has been fighting god if not great fighters and he has beat them - but in the process he has looked like he is just slighlty better than them.
i take into account that kessler hasn't beat alot of big names but he is very tecyhnically good and i dont see tarvers southpaw stance giving MK too many problems. Whats the best way to neutralize a southpaw - with a quality straight right. if theres one thing that kessler does have its a quality straight right hand in fact he probably has the best straight right in the SMW and LHW class.
in the end i just see kessler being too fit, too strong, too powerful and too damn good to drop a desicion to tarver.
now if the two were to meet up in their primes then it becomes harder to call - we have seen everything that tarver has to offer but kessler is still approaching his prime but im gonna go and stick my neck out and say that kessler would beat maybe even a prime tarver.
when tarver was at kesslers age he wasnt as good a fighter as kessler is now but like i said if we were to match them up prime for prime its really close to call. if they were to fight tomorow i see mikel taking the SD.
