Rahman and Barrett were both King fighters at the time. Kind needed an interim opponent to legitimize Rock.

Barrett was given the fight and the payday with the catch being that he would lose to Rahman and in return would receive an undeserved title shot down the road.

Barrett was a good sport and lost and King stuck to his word and gave Barrett a title shot against Valuev.

Of course no real proof, without Barrett confessing it would all be speculation and obviously he wouldnt do that considering he made out as well or better than anyone else in the situation.

I remember watching this program on television about boxing matches being fixed. It was talking specifically about Richie Melito.

If you don't remember him he was a hypejob musclebound italian heavyweight from New York in the 90's. It turned out, unbeknownst to him, that his manager was fixing his fights building him up into a title shot so that he could bet against him and make a ****load of money.

They showed a fight clip with the guy who admitted to throwing a fight, Melito was backing him up and throwing careless punches and the guy just instinctually ducked and hit him with a counter left and just crumpled him.

The guy seriously went "Oh ****!"

Meltio has gonna go down and the guy sorta held him up and tied him up and let him get his wits together without trying to follow up.

I have looked everywhere i can think of for Melito fights and have had no luck.

BTW, he did eventually get a minor title shot against Bert Cooper and was absolutely destroyed in 1 round.

they had a taped phone call with his manager where the manager says,

"ahhahaha, dont worry its for sure, this kid is gonna get killed his first time out of the chute"

rachman had to give king his purse because of past contract transgressions.
so rachman got with his buddy barrett and played paddycake.

True, Rahman needed that fight plus 1 just to get back in the green

However, Barrett didn't just play along cause they were friends, the title shot guarantee was his incentive to let Hasim win, otherwise i honestly think he'd have kicked his ass, friendship or not.

There is really no other explanation for Barrett getting the Valuev fight coming off of a loss and 14 months of inactivity,
