Why DID Barrett put up such a poor display against Rahman?

I've always had a lot of time for Monte ever since I saw him get jobbed against Joe Mesi. Then in his next fight he hands Dominic Guinn his first loss.

This is a guy who goes all out against a seven foot giant who outweighs him by over a hundred pounds (wtf?).

Yet - apart from the final round where he wobbled Rock - he capitulates all the way in one of the worst heavyweight bouts I've ever seen.

I still feel that some Don King green may have influenced that one.. I mean, what was up with that?

Barret and Rachman were long time friends. Which is why both put on such a horrible performance and didn't really try to get any offense going. They fought very hesitant and cautious becuase of the respect that they had for each other.

                No, they were just buddies.

One of the first fights I watched was Wladimir vs. Barrett. Wlad was the only fighter to dominate prime Barrett, and that plus his Byrd I fight made me his fan.

It's true, he lost on purpose

Rahman and Barrett were both King fighters at the time. Kind needed an interim opponent to legitimize Rock.

Barrett was given the fight and the payday with the catch being that he would lose to Rahman and in return would receive an undeserved title shot down the road.

Barrett was a good sport and lost and King stuck to his word and gave Barrett a title shot against Valuev.

Is there proof of that, Hitman?

I remember him rocking the Rock in the last round. I bet he thought "****, what I have ****in' done there?"
