Will Boxing Take A Hit If Cotto Loses?

Am I wrong for feeling different about Cotto then everyone else? I mean that you have guys like Pac who are kind of close to undefeated and then you had guys like Pavlik, Abraham, and Calzaghe who are undefeated but I get the feeling that it will be no big deal if those other guys lose. I think it will be something that obviously hurts there legacy but soon people will move on. However, I feel different about Cotto. Maybe its just me but I feel like boxing has still kind of put alot of there faith in him and it will feel different on these boards and in the media if he loses.

I dont even know why I feel that way. He could certainly lose with all the great people at WW but it would just seem weird. Maybe I only feel that way because Floyd is still undefeated and until he's really old, there's always a chance of a matchup between the 2 while there undefeated. I dont know how much attention it will get in the main stream but it would be the biggest hardcore fans and media fight in years. Maybe thats it. Maybe I feel that Pac can be a million top fighters but no matter who he fights, it still wont feel like that super, super, super fight. Pavlik, Calzaghe, & Abraham can all fight eachother while there undefeated but it still wont seem like a super, super, super fight to me. Dont get me wrong, its a huge fight that I would love to see but Cotto-Mayweather is like Lenoard-Hearns/Hagler or Sweet Pea vs JCC. Its just a dream fight.

I still dont know if thats the reason or maybe its something else but it will just seem different to me if Cotto lost to Margarito, Clottey, or whoever then those other guys losing and Im not even a die hard Cotto fan. Again, the title may not tell what Im trying to say. It may not be a big deal in the main stream anyway because Cotto's name still isnt huge that way but inside of boxing I think it could be like a mini shockwave while the others wouldnt be. The media & boxing fans love Margarito and I think a fair amount will pick him to win but I still think that people would take it as a slight dissapointment if he did

If he is embarrased than i think so. But if he loses in all out wars, with rematches he has a chance to redeem himself

boxing will not take a hit if cotto loses because boxing is bigger than cotto and cotto isn't a superstar yet. even with his style he still hasn't caught on, imho its cause cotto has no charisma.

I don't think so. He's not a superstar in boxing yet and sometimes fighters gain popularity from a loss, if they lose valiantly.
