On a side note I think the fight will happen this year.

Am I the only one that sees Diaz as a sort of practice run for Manny at 135 to see how he would do against Ricky?

Diaz is 5'6 or so. Hatton is around the same height. They are both very durable and have good chins. They are both pressure fighters that like to come in. Both are wear you down type guys but don't really have one-punch stopping power. Diaz was a junior welterweight before as well.

Obviously , Ricky is much more talented than David but there are similiarities between the two. If I was Roach/Arum and I wanted to test 135 and to see how Manny could do against Hatton , a former 140-lber like David would be a good test.
Of course Arum picked David because he's David's promoter as well so more money in it for him but still......if they wanted to test how Manny would do against Ricky , David was a good choice.

I think if Manny beats David handily , Manny and Ricky's next fight will be against each other.
This is a really good point Tua, and I admit, not one that I had considered.

I doubt that the fight will happen this year now as Hatton vs Paulie is being touted for November but maybe spring next year. Ill look forward to it and hopefully Pacman will call out Hatton at the post fight interviews after Diaz.

oh the hatton fight is not 'til november?

for some reason i thought it was sooner. need to keep up on schedules more......

that's fine everyone else at 135 is locked up this year and they want manny to have one more fight this year so maybe a valero-pacquiao fight will happen. then a ricky and marquez fight next year for big money.

this fight will happen too much money in it unless manny gets a loss and kills interest.

both guys have much to earn from this fight. aside from money , manny will get to make history challenging for a 140 lineal belt and ricky can say he fought two #1 p4p fighters and probably be 1-1 against #1 p4p.

even if manny losses , which he probably would , makes all talk of de la hoya or whomever else above 135 go away and manny can concentrate on all the 135 guys and the 130 guys moving up to meet him.

I hope it don't happen. There's a lot goin on at LW and Pac can win more belts and make more $ there a lot easier than he could tryin to fight Hatton at 140. That just seems to ****in high up for him. But if Pac ends up unifyin the LW title I have a feelin he'll move up rather than defend it. I just hope he and JMM fight again.

I cant see either boxer (Hatton or Pacquiao) losing their next fights so we should be set to see them meet, personally I think the 135 division holds more danger for Manny and is livlier, @ 140 the major draw is Hatton and thats the only fight i think Manny would take, forget Paulie or Torres there is not really enough esteem for Manny to face them.
Good point about Hatton possibly being 1-1 against #1 P4P fighters, hadnt thought of it like that either!!
On a little side note I think Valero vs Pacman would be a great fight.

it'll happen mangler. too much money involved. it'll take 2-3 fights at 135 to equal the amount of money he'd make against hatton. i say $10-15 million for manny and a bit more for ricky. that's why i want it to happen as soon as possible. this way manny can move to 140 for one fight and still be physically capable of going back down to 135 to fight all the guys in that deep division.

he beat the long time king at 140 and atg tszyu and fought 2 fights against #1 p4p fighters 5-time champions in 5 divisions.

he beat the king at his weight , challenged #1 p4p at a higher weight and beat the #1 p4p guy trying to go in his division.

not a bad resume for the kid from manchester right?

                  possible.

but if manny has ko power at 135......

i say ricky has a much tougher time than that.

Pac needs to stay at Lightweight if he beats Diaz. There's Casa, Camp, Guzzy and Marquez roaming around waiting.

but the money , chups. just one fight at 140 and he'll come right back down.

he doesn't have to beat hatton. if a guy that started as a flyweight can just hang with the lineal 140 champ. it looks very good on his resume.
