Which is more difficult going up a weight class or going down a weight class?

      You guys are getting this wrong. I know it sounds the same but these things are totally different. Its apples & oranges. Dropping weight is about yourself. Ofcourse its going to be harder on your body to lose weight. Thats common sense. Going up in weight is about your opponent. Its usually not going to hurt your body but your opponent maybe way naturally bigger & stronger then you so he can kick your ass.

      Thats why I think these things are totally different. One is about you and the other is about your opponent

        Going up a weight class, how hard is it gaining weight while still exercising and making sure the weight you gain is more muscle than fat

            I can just talk about wrestling High School and in College and I would definitely say going up in weight is harder.

            I was multi-sport in H.S. so I did a lot of weight dropping between football and wrestling and put it back on some for lacrosse. Only one sport in College so not as serious yo-yo.

            5lbs-11lbs make a huge difference in. We didn't have the 24-36 hours pre-competition that boxing does, but even so you dont feel your strongest but you feel stronger than at a weight even 5lbs up.

            During tournaments where they have weight classes on arms (marker) you can see a huge difference in adjacent weight classes. As I was cutting weight throughout the season (although I felt overall not as powerful as I did in football or in the upper weight classes) I felt stronger and stronger against opponents as I went down the different divisions throughout the season, from 215lbs in football/begining of Wrestling to 171lbs by the times cities came around senior year. Went from 195lbs to 160lbs junior year.

            Packing on muscle was easier although it took longer. Power lifting, supliment shakes, protein/carbs and creatine.

            So my vote is dropping weight is easier and going up in weight is harder.

              of course there are many ways you can look at this and make a case for both, but I would lean towards losing weight. if you're into boxing I think you've heard all the horror stories of losing weight and what it does and very rarely do you hear about bad weight gain stories.
