This afternoon, in the next to last round of his final sparring day before his major championship heavyweight fight against Nikolai Valuev, WBA heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev has suffered a complete tear of the Achilles tendon in his left ankle. He is certain to have to undergo an operation. The July 5th card will go on as scheduled with WBA middleweight champion Felix Sturm's rematch against Randy Griffin.

why does this only happen in the heavyweight division?

Chagaev cant seem to catch a break...He's been injured for the longest...He just needs to vacate his belt and let someone else fight for it...He holding up the division IMO.
