yeah but foreman was eating up tomato cans on a mike tyson level.

liston had his last fight in what '70 or '71? george had 20-25 fights by then and had already had some tough guys like old george chuvalo. an old former champ with a name like liston would have been a good win for a young guy.

i think george ko's sonny but it would've been a good fight.

Liston was done at that point (when Foreman was making his way up), physically he was about 40 years old (probably 4-5 years older than he said he was) and mentally he was a broken down man. Martin brutally knocked him out, one of the most brutal sights I've seen in the boxing ring.

It's a shame that Martin had to retire after this win, he would've been a good contender of the era.

Liston vs Frazier in 1967-1968 would've still been a good fight due to the style match-up, Liston was still a feared opponent at that time although he lacked the ability to go 15 rounds (as shown in the Martin fight).

Frazier could've been in a few more fights but as it is, he beat Ali, Quarry, Ellis, Bonavena, Chuvalo, Machen, Bugner, Ramos and Jones and only lost to two of the best heavyweights around his time (Ali and Foreman).

Lyle, Shavers and Norton would've surely given Frazier all he could handle but when they were at their best, Frazier was pretty much done as a fighter. He did beat Quarry who was coming off two wins over Lyle and Shavers (the rematch), even destroyed him.

If you don't know why Frazier belongs into the hall of fame then you should look up some past fights/fighters, I don't think there is any question...

is it because of people's view of him throwing the ali fight?

i would've loved to see liston vs. frazier or foreman.

Liston was basically blackballed from boxing after the 2nd Ali fight. With his mob ties and the perception that he took a dive, nobody would touch him. If they won't put you on TV then you've got a tough road to get to a big fight. Like others have noted, by the time he got on TV again he was ancient and blew a big lead in the Leotis Martin fight.

Then you need to go over to the video thread and start downloading fights. There are plenty of fights out there: No excuse to not see the fighters in action.

Is it even necessary to give a reason why? I mean he's Joe "Smokin" Frazier man...

Silencer pretty much summed it all up.

Smoking Joe was an Olympic Gold medalist. He was a world heavyweight champion. And he won the biggest and most highly anticipated fight in the history of boxing

Being one half of boxings most famous rivalry/ trilogy, the first man to beat Muhammad Ali, being undisputed heavyweight champion of the world for two years in the era unanimously considered heavyweight boxings "golden age", winning an Olympic gold, hmm I'd say those are pretty fair reasons.
