Buster Mathis wasn't ranked in the top 10 by the Ring but he was a pretty good contender at the time as well.

And Scott is correct, if Johanssen and Willard can make it in, Frazier most definitely can.
Just to clarify that last line, Frazier belongs in the HOF, and Willard and Ingo clearly don't.

he beat jimmy ellis and jerry quarry twice each and beat ali at a time when ali was undefeated. one could say he beat ali 2-3 times although his corner did throw in the in manila.

oscar bonavena and george chuvalo were tough mofo's as well.

i would've like to see him against shavers and norton though.

but not a bad resume for only 37 fights.

I know, what I meant by that is that if Ingo and Willard can get into the HOF, Frazier should be in without question.

sometimes the hof is not that hard to get in.

we probably hold in higher regard the term HOFer higher than the guys who vote them in.

sometimes guys get in the hall because of who they fight not necessarily who they beat. sometimes a loss against a HOFer is worth more than a win over someone who is not. can't disagree with that too much.

example. hatton just fighting floyd adds more to his legacy than beating say a vivian harris or paulie malignacci.

buster beat him in the amateurs i think. that's what gave incentive to fight him.

Yeah, Mathis beat him in the Olympic Trials and Frazier became an alternate but Mathis then broke his hand and Frazier took his place.

you're a bit more knowledgable about historical stuff than i , silencers.

after he lost to ali , liston continued on fighting......why didn't a frazier-liston or foreman liston get made?

is it because of people's view of him throwing the ali fight?

i would've loved to see liston vs. frazier or foreman.

I'm not exactly sure why it didn't happen but after the second Ali-Liston fight where rumors were rampant that Liston took a dive took him out of favor with the mob and promoters.

Once he worked his way back into contention he lost to Leotis Martin and then died mysteriously a few months later.

Liston vs Frazier would have been a great fight though.

The timing for a Foreman fight was just wrong, Foreman turned pro in 1969 and that was about the time Liston lost to Leotis Martin so just bad timing there.

joe could've been in a few more fights.

yeah but foreman was eating up tomato cans on a mike tyson level.

liston had his last fight in what '70 or '71? george had 20-25 fights by then and had already had some tough guys like old george chuvalo. an old former champ with a name like liston would have been a good win for a young guy.

i think george ko's sonny but it would've been a good fight.

1970 was his last fight against Chuck Wepner, he beat Wepner up pretty badly, broke bones in his face, opened cuts etc.

Liston's name would have been good on his resume but I also think his management didn't want him in against his mentor who pretty much knew all there was to know about him while Foreman was still getting acclimated to the professional levels.
