There are numerous double standards here, but the Calzaghe-PBF one takes the cake

Calzaghe is choosing to fight Roy Jones because he is a four-weight world champion, but somehow omits the fact that Roy Jones hasn't been the same fighter for over 4 YEARS. He got brutally knocked the **** out two times in a row, lost a lopsided decision in the final chapter of trilogy, cruised to two decisions versus complete bums, and then another decision over a guy that spent the last 3 years watching fights instead of participating in them. Yet, everyone allows this to happen because they have some sort of nostalgic crush on Roy Jones that will never fade. Well, I have news for you folks...Roy IS done...Roy HAS been done.

You guys do realize that De La Hoya is a SIX weight champion, right? That didn't seem to matter when Mayweather fought him or wanted to fight him again, so why does Jones' legacy matter when his prime ended 4 years ago?

Please don't give this bull**** that we've never seen Calzaghe-Jones, so that's why it's allowed because it is a complete cop-out. Mayweather retires instead of fighting a young, prime, hungry champion in Cotto and he is labeled a coward, a chump, a runner. Calzaghe chooses to fight an old, over-the-hill Jones and retire instead of a young, prime, hungry, champion in Pavlik and it is considered plausable.

    Shameful, just shameful.
Agree with your premise but you lose me when you start pointing out how DLH is a six division champ compared to Jones who is four. One would argue that yeah, they've both looked like crap since 2003 and DLH hasn't won anything significant either in that time. But comparing Jones to Oscar is like comparing Jordan to Chris Mullin. Meaning, in their primes, Jones was a 100 times better. He actually won big fights.

And his situation is not the same as Mayweather.
You're right, Calzaghe has not even come close to proving himself as much as Mayweather had proved himself. And now with one last opportunity to prove himself in the eyes of boxing fans, he chooses a finished fighter or a young, hungry champion that he has a big weight advantage over.

The point is their primes are years in the rear view mirror, and the criticism leveled down at both fighters for fighting out-of-prime champions should be equal, and I am not seeing that.

Exactly. How these guys get hated on is a serious flaw to me when it concerns talking boxing.

Anybody trying to put Calzhage on the same level as Mayweather is a loser.

Thats right, him and Hopkins are two different people & Hopkins looked great at 36 while Calzaghe didn't look impressive at all against Hopkins. To be honest I don't think Calzaghe could get past Taylor.
