If Calzaghe had the balls to travel outside of Wales and fight legit fighters (in his weight class (Jones Jr., Glen Johnson) or outside his weight class instead of a steady line of chumps, he could have been an all time great and we would have seen some great fights... what a shame.

By the time Joe was an established SMW, Jones was at LHW...

But i still think he should have gone to america earlier.

He did try to fight Jones (for the money) but Jones wanted too high a price to fight an relative unknown like Calzaghe at the time, lots of fighters wanted jones like the guy a LHW (can't remember his name) his name begins with a D and it's his last name is Michealowski or something. Nunn wanted Jones, Hopkins wanted the rematch etc..

Johnson was floating round the top 10 but he'd just lost to Hopkins so he wouldn't have gotten much credit at the time. Brewer and Mitchell were ranked higher than him at the time. In Hindsight Johnson would've been a better option but Calzaghe didn't know that at the time.

Calzaghe has fought outside of Wales more than he fought inside Wales. He's fought in more countries than most American fighters in the last 20 years. Of course, if someone had offered him more money than he would earned in the UK he would have fought in the US. I can't recall one single American who has called him out until very recently.

Calzaghe's got a big heart so it's nothing to do with that, this is a major simplifying of a complex area of time and reasons to suite attacking Joe. I wish he'd have fought Johnson and I bet it frustrated him for awhile, but sometimes things can't be perfect and hinesights a wonderful thing on the other possibilities. Could be said of many fighters.

Exactly, and even by Roys ethos, why move when your filling stadiums, earning a steady wage in the places your fighting already.

Every Abraham fight has been in Germany.

Most of Calzaghes fights have not been in his country. He's also faced way more names and Americans.
