Actually, my friend you are the one blinded. Joe Calzaghe, in an interview in July 2006, said he would retire within the next 12-16 months. He also said he wouldn't fight Kessler. Do you always take him at his word?

Calzaghe aint ******.. he is not getting in the same ring with Kelly Pavlik. As soon as Pavlik handicapped Lockett, Calzaghe quickly said, "Umm I decided to fight Roy Jones.. he's a 4 weight champion." as if we didn't already know who Roy Jones is, that "he's a 4 weight champion". Now every time you hear Calzaghe mention Jones he mentions "he's a 4 weight champion." Don't try to convince us why your fighting Roy Jones Jr. and NOT Pavlik. It's a damn shame when you have to make excuses why your fighting somebody... if you just fight the best then you wouldn't have to make excuses about your choice for your next opponent. Every ***** made man in the world should be arrested.

If i recall when joe calzaghe went out to support ricky hatton vs mayweather joe calzaghe was doing interviews saying he has to chase old men because theres no young guys around now there is a young lion the welshman is doing everything in his power to avoid him so he can retire with his record still intact.

It's a bit late for Joe to be dumping Frank Warren now isn't it? 5 or so years ago, The options for fights would have been more open for Joe.

Roy Jones Jr. has been doing the unbelievable his whole career. In Joe Calzaghe he is facing a boxer. Roy was KOd by punchers with one punch KO power. Calzaghe does not have one punch KO power. This will be a boxing match of speed and skills. Styles make fights. If Joe were facing a different style I would give him a better chance to out box his opponent (i.e. beating Bernard Hopkins) but I cant see him out boxing Jones. He will have his moments but he wont out box Jones for 12 rounds and may get KOd by Jones. The only way Calzaghe wins is a controversial decision. Either way tihs is Jones fight to win or lose.

Buddy, you're forgetting Roy's legs, or lack of. The guy can't compete with Calzaghe's conditioning. IF, and it's a big if, Roy can let his hands go in the first few rounds, box like he did in his younger years, and get a stoppage, he does have a chance to win this fight. If it goes past....I'm going to say if it goes past the opening bell of the 5th, it's going to be too late, and he'll fade fast, most likely getting TKO'd late. If, on the other hand, he is reserved, potshots Calzaghe, and tries to get the judges to look favorably on counterpunching and ring generalship, he'll probably make it to 12, but will lose a decision.

I just don't think Roy can outbox Calzaghe, not for enough rounds to win him the fight. He can't stay as active as he needs to against Calzaghe...hell, I don't think anyone can, really. The guy is one of the best conditioned boxers in the world, probably the top 2 or 3. That's one of the reasons he has such a ****ing granite chin. Do you guys remember those shots he took from Lacy and Kessler? Both big punchers, Calzaghe walked right through 'em firing back the whole time.

Also wanted to say something to those guys who don't think Calzaghe can punch...Let's wait and see how the first few rounds go against Jones. If I'm right, Joe will catch Roy a few times within the first few rounds, and if Roy thinks he can take anything Calzaghe can throw at him, he'll wade in and try to stop him. If he thinks Joe can **** a little, he'll back off and wait for holes. That'll tell you what Roy thinks of Calzaghe's power.

Don't hold your breadth for Cotto to go solo. Cotto needs a promoter the way he is so tentative in speaking for himself. Good fighter. Lousy self promoter.

Yet he's fought more of the top WW's than anyone other fighter and is fast becoming the next boxing 'man'? When you're beating everyone so convincingly you don't really need to talk ****.

Roy not only has power but speed and accuracy. Ya'll must have forgot Calzaghe was dropped by Hopkins in Rd 1 because he had never seen a right hand like that. Well... against Roy Jones there is a lot more than a right hand that he has never seen. Calzaghe is a good fighter.. with an unorthodox style. Roy Jones is a legend with an unorthodox style. To put the differences between the two fighters in perspective I ask this: "Can anyone imagine Joe Calzaghe moving up to Heavyweight to win the Heavyweight title at anytime in his career?" (Please don't embarass yourself by even imagining that possiblity.) Now ask yourself this: How did Jones make it look easy? EASY. Thats the difference between Good, Great and Legendary. Jones has something Calzaghe has never had. He's Legendary.

The first couple of rounds are always "feeling out" rounds, and it's not uncommon for a flash KD to occur when a guy is surprised by a punch that got there quicker than he expected. That's just part of the steep learning curve during a fight. And Calzaghe is very prone to getting caught in the first half of a fight simply because he walks his opponents down and throws alot of punches, leaving himself open to be countered. Same thing happened against Byron Mitchell, only in Mitchell's case, he waded in too quick, thinking Calzaghe was hurt, and got caught with a lead left followed by a barrage of other punches, and was TKO'd (though I still think that stoppage was way too soon).

At least not until after the first 4 or 5 rounds, when Roy is gassed and can't keep up the pace.

Roy and Joe are far too old to fight a trilogy. If I looked as bad as Joe did in his last fight, I'd be hesitant to fight again at all. Retire and then claim who he could've beaten if Warren hadn't been protecting him all those years.

When was the last time you saw ANYONE look good against Hopkins? He's a spoiler, has been for years. The only time he actually engages and fights is when he's facing someone 2 weight classes down from him.

you know what. maybe im just an idiot (yes), but i really want to see jones jr vs calzhage before jones jr retires. moreso than pavlik/calzhage.

no man, i understand. from a jones fan perspective, this fight is great if he wins. I mean, I admitted in another thread that I don't really ever cry for any reason anymore, but I really think I would cry tears of happiness for roy if he beats calzaghe. I think it was really sad what happened to him in the last couple of years after all those years of success. This will be the ending that he deserves.
