Pavlik Would Have To Fight Calzaghe Near 175-Pounds

A possible fight between Undisputed super middleweight champ Joe Calzaghe and WBC/WBO middleweight champ Kelly Pavlik has gotten even further apart. Calzaghe's promoter Frank Warren has made it known that Pavlik would need to move up by nearly two-weight divisions to fight Calzaghe. He said the fight would have to take place at a catch-weight between 168 and 175. The probable weight being eyed is 170. [details]

I dont think 170 would be too much right? He could easily fight at 168 so 2 pounds shouldnt hurt

Pffff, 170lbs as if that would be hard for Kelly. Calzaghe is just finding reasons to not fight him. That being said, one reason FOR fighting him far outweighs the latter - - A win will solidify his legacy and he can go riding off into the night. A win over Jones, and I love RJJ, would do little for his legacy. Ask yourselves this though - which would hurt worse, a loss to Jones or a loss to Pavlik? Take the fight Joe - show us here in America you have the heart we all hoped you had.

I think it's up to Pavlik to choose at this point. He's got Abraham and Calzaghe possibilities and honestly I don't know which one I'd prefer to chose here.

If it's Calzaghe's last fight, why shouldn't he choose it to be on his terms

The fight won't happen unless Calzaghe decides to have 1 more fight after Jones.

I'm not sure how effective Pavlik would be at 170, a fight with Calzaghe at 168 for his belts would be more important though.

But it's "US" who will define the legacy he is so hell bent on creating/keeping. Fight the FIGHT that is right in front of you instead of fighting the fight that is comfortable. That being said, RJJ, is no off the couch money fighter. JC might just be in for the fight of his life. If that fight shows up - GG.
