Roy not only had a BUNCH of amateur fights, but should be an olympic gold medalist on top of Most Outstanding Boxer in the 88' games. I'm not here to dog anyone, but to answer that question no he did not train himself. When he got older he created things, but Roy Jones Sr. has taught that style for nearly 4 decades. Jr. mastered it much like Tyson mastered the peek-a-boo. Sr. pounded it into him in ways most wouldn't understand though, like making spar with older/bigger guys with one hand. I wouldn't suggest to anyone to try RJj's style unless they have the natural gifts it takes to do it. So many guys have tried to fight like an Ali, SRL, or Jones and get in trouble. Those guys got away with mistakes that 99.9% can't because they had GREAT skills. To this day Big Roy teaches the same style. I could match with one of his kids this Saturday and I already know how they'll fight. You'd be better off taking the Bruce Lee approach of no one style for everybody. Get the basics down and find what else comes natural to you. Good luck with your career.

cus d amato called it the peek a boo, he did use a variation of the peek a boo, he'd keep his guard high then use upper body movement to get inside then drop the guard work on the inside step back and repeat. Most of the time he didn`t even bother to jab to get his punches off
