I agree with what you said, the defense needs a lot of improvement. He would benefit from a good trainer.

Inside, at least against Gomez, Khan looked like an amateur. He was getting tagged repeatedly with hard shots. It wasn't looking good.

I didnt actually get to read your summary because of the thousands of post related to the Khan/gomez fight, I have to say this is a beautiful piece of work.. Gomez is a tough SOB this is the sort of fights that Khan needs at this stage of his career.

Yep Khan doesnt know how to fight inside yet, He likes to use his boxing ability/speed to keep his opponent at a distance so he could get his shots off. but i still maintain the shot that put khan down wasnt a powerful shot.

People are acting like Khan sucks after that knockdown.. Khan looked great. He was an offensive machine and he got caught with a big punch in a bad place. He may very well not be ready for all the hype that people are putting on him but he's definitely legitimately a huge prospect.

I don't know man, if you read what I was saying I was analyzing him pretty critically during the Gomez fight and he has GLARINGLY poor defense inside. After one, two, three uppercuts landed you'd think he'd adjust; but plain and simple Khan couldn't. He has some big defensive flaws due to being able to dust almost all his opponents up to this point. He's not a huge prospect yet. He has more to prove.

He's still a huge prospect! A prospect is someone who has potential to be someone. I don't think he's quite ready to be a serious contender. He's very young and b/c he's so talented with a nasty offense everyone is jumping on his bandwagon and hyping him up. I also think he has a chip about being pushed too slowly and being protected b/c of the stigma of being promoted by Frank Warren. It sounds like because Warren is so frequently careful that Khan has some chip to get out there and prove that he's not gonna be protected. He definitely needs a lot of improvement but IMO he's the most talented prospect in his division. Right now however he'd likely get outwitted by anyone with a strap.

This fight hasnt showed me anything that i didnt know about Khan. He still leaves his chin out to dry and lacks any of the defensive smarts and reflexes to live at world class level.

He should take a leaf out of Winky Wrights book and switch to the Philly shell style. Wright was getting tagged alot in his fights before adopting the philly shell and managed to turn himself into a defensive master, at the cost of being one of the most boring boxers on the planet though.

The fact that a Super Featherweight fighter was able to deck him with one punch whilst seemingly in a clinch doesnt exactly bode well fo Khan's future.

Coupled with this, pre-fight talk was about the fact that Khans body fat has gone from 16% to just about 1.5% now. So he added about 14 pounds of muscle to his frame.

I dont think this is a good thing, it may sound impressive but we should think about this. All that extra muscle mass requires even more Oxygen.

Punch power is a strange thing, and packing on muscle doesnt necessarily increase it, but what it does do is sap your strength down the stretch, think Frank Bruno.

I think they made a big mistake turning khan into a mini bodybuilder. They should have been focusing on improving is defence so he doesnt get hit as often as he does at the moment.

Everytime Gomez landed on Khan it seemed to have some kind of effect.

If Khan doesnt improve his defence before steping in with the genuine world class operators, and not the over the hill, blown up featherweight ones, his reign as champion at any level is going to be very short lived.

Amir Khan IS a prospect obviously, I'm not dis*****g that. But with the type of international attention he's starting to attract- and being 18-0 now, it's time to determine where he fits into the division, right? At his level I'd like to see some better work in areas that are fundamental. His defense is lacking in ways that scares me. Also, Gomez- like I said- was able to lure Khan into a bit more of a ****ing contest than he shoudl've been able to. At the very least you'd like to see a young, fast, undefeated prospect controlling the action. He didn't display 'ring generalship'. I think Khan has been in the prospect limelight and his time is beginning to run thin. It's put up or shut up time for him very soon. I'm not sure he's a "huge prospect" strictly in the sense that the attention turned to him awhile back and he hasn't yet gotten remotely close to silencing his throngs of doubters.
