Look at Rid**** Bowe, 29 years old when he fought Andrew Golata twice. That's 2 years younger and I'm guessing he hadn't taken as many punches as did Erik Morales. He was an old man before he was old, having gone up and down in weight, like Morales, and had shown clear signs of deterioration as a fighter and was getting dropped when in earlier years he hadn't been getting dropped.

Rest and relaxation did him no good as a fighter.

Sometimes time can cause the effects of head trauma and punishment to subside, but the damage is still there. I don't want to see a great warrior like Morales end up in a compromised state after all he has done for boxing. Why take that risk? From a fan's perspective, why would you want a man who has nothing left to prove to you or I take unnecessary risks?

If that doesn't do anything for you, then here it is from Erik and Jose Morales' mouths.

"That's it," said Morales, who was bothered by a right wrist injury and blisters on his right foot. "No more fighting. I am done. Too many punches, particularly to the head area."

"Erik has taken too many punches. It has to stop," said Jose Morales, Erik's father and trainer.

Rid**** Bowe stayed out of the ring for 8 years. Morales hasn't been out for a year and if he comes back in 2009 it'll be what 18 months to 2 years. 37 is in no way 31 and if you forget Bowe had some wars with both Holyfield and Golota plus he didn't have to go through hell to make weight like Eric did.

While I agree with you in most points, all of these great fighters have boxing in their blood. And who are to say that they are shot or that they have no business in the ring. They are still going to fight regardless of what people say. I just hope for the best and wish him the best of luck.

        morales should stay retired

Morales should stay retired, he was one of the best fighters in the 90 's up to 2004. He should not come back to boxing there are to many good young fighters that will run over morales. he was one of my favorite boxers, he went out in a good way knowing he won the fight against david diaz but not in the score cards.

Wish he would just call it quits. He's had a great career and has nothing left to prove.

If he and barrera get at it again, they might as well be using a cane to beat each other

Lets hope he and his people don't put him in with the young lions in the division like Juan Diaz, Katsidis, and amir Kahn. If they do it will be another sad ending for a once great fighter.
i think he beat diaz, no questions...

I'd still pay to see that.
