Morales is still young and his last fights were just the results of him abusing his body. I think between wars he had with pac and Morales plus the constant weight draining really took a toll on him. Maybe this long layoff is just what he needed to rejuvenate himself.

He was advised to retire after the David Diaz fight after complaining of ringing in his head. He said it himself that on that night he felt the punches worse than he had ever previously, and that was why he wanted to retire.

Returning at 140 isn't going to do him any good, he'll just open himself up to punishment from bigger guys.

And don't just look at his biological age, look at his ring age.

        Three fights with Barrera
        Three fights with Pacquiao
He's been knocked out twice in his last three fights, whereas before he was impervious to knockdowns
Wars with In Jin Chi, Guty Espadas, Famoso Hernandez, Jesus Chavez, Junior Jones

He's lost 5 of his last 6, if that means anything to anyone. If thats not a red flag for anyone, nothing is. Once the fight is beaten out of you, it's gone forever. Layoffs didn't do anything for Rid**** Bowe or Jerry Quarrey, it isn't going to do anything for Morales either.

          Boxing is a wonderful Drug
It's partly the "boxing" drug, but mostly the "money" drug.

I said maybe, but I still think the rest will do him good. Morales is by no means an old shot fighter, he might still have something left in the tank.

This guy should stay retired. His body is worn out. To make it simple hes shot.

I see your point, but what you fail to see is that he is only 31. And while he may be a lot older in ring years, he is still fairly young.

If you read my post, I used the words maybe and might. I'm not saying that he will or he won't, but he is still going to fight. I just rather give him the benefit of the doubt.

Yes, I did read your posts and I did note your maybe and other indeterminate variables. What I'm saying is it's better to err on the side of caution than to hang a man out to dry and risk him ending up feeble-minded and in need of 24/7 assistance.

Look at Rid**** Bowe, 29 years old when he fought Andrew Golata twice. That's 2 years younger and I'm guessing he hadn't taken as many punches as did Erik Morales. He was an old man before he was old, having gone up and down in weight, like Morales, and had shown clear signs of deterioration as a fighter and was getting dropped when in earlier years he hadn't been getting dropped.

Rest and relaxation did him no good as a fighter.

Sometimes time can cause the effects of head trauma and punishment to subside, but the damage is still there. I don't want to see a great warrior like Morales end up in a compromised state after all he has done for boxing. Why take that risk? From a fan's perspective, why would you want a man who has nothing left to prove to you or I take unnecessary risks?

If that doesn't do anything for you, then here it is from Erik and Jose Morales' mouths.

"That's it," said Morales, who was bothered by a right wrist injury and blisters on his right foot. "No more fighting. I am done. Too many punches, particularly to the head area."

"Erik has taken too many punches. It has to stop," said Jose Morales, Erik's father and trainer.
