Yeah I forgot how amazing he was in his prime. He fought everyone and made them all look bad. Win or lose, they looked bad at some point against him. If he had a lot of power he would be right up there with Robinson for greatest of all time.Comment

I don't believe that, as the two papers out of the fight's location of the time make no mention of Pep winning that round against Graves without throwing a punch, and in fact, one of them described Pep throwing quite a few punches;
"Graves pounded a left to the stomach that made Pep wince in the third. They mixed wildly. A clicker couldn't count the blows. Pep punched Graves into the ropes as the most even round of the evening ended." - a short description of the round in question as written by Joe Hennessy in the July 26th, 1946, St. Paul Pioneer Press
I know he liked to say that he won the round without throwing a punch in his later years, but he's also stated that he did throw punches in that round when in 1972 he admitted that he threw a "few" in a interview with Peter Heller, which can be found in Heller's book called 'In This Corner'.
Saying that, he's still an excellant choice for the best defensive fighter of all time, though, and likely will be the benchmark in that category for many years to come.Comment
