Kelly Pavlik's rise to the Top

I just thought about this. Nobody seems to think about it anymore, just how unpredictable and suprising his come-up was. He didn't have the "next heir apparent/ middleweight king" hype going for him that Jermain Taylor enjoyed on HBO.

He has been a middleweight contender for 7 long years before getting a shot at the title. Just a year ago nobody thought he would come as far as he has in the middleweight division. People were talking about a Taylor/Winky rematch, Taylor moving up to 168 to fight Joe Calzaghe and Edison Miranda's nutsacks were being ****** dry by fans.

After breaking Abraham's jaw, Miranda came to America and made quick work of Willie Gibbs and just 4 months later defeated Allan Green all televised on HBO. Just two months after that he was gonna fight Kelly Pavlik. Both Miranda and Taylor were to busy trashing each other at the press conf's and completely ignored their opponents Cory Spinks & Pavlik. It was all set for HBO - Miranda was gonna Ko the undefeated whiteboy and Taylor was gonna beat Spinks and then they were gonna fight each other. Miranda had all the hype going for him and was on a collison course with Taylor.

And then THE GHOST snuck up on them both and knocked their asses out. And here we are talking about Joe Calzaghe ducking Kelly Pavlik. How things change in a short period of time.

Interestingly enough when Winky Wright vs Sam Soliman (I think this was it) happened back in 2005 they showed Pavlik's picutre as one of the top middleweights. I'm pretty sure it was Soliman-Winky,

i'd been watching pavlik come up before he fought taylor, he looked like a good prospect. when he ****ed up zertuche i knew he'd be something special, when he KTFO'd miranda i knew he was going to knock jermain taylor the **** out. lots of pavlik's fights were on tv before he became a top ranked middleweight

He's now announced himself on the world stage and being talked about to go up against guys like Calzaghe.

He's one of my favourite fighters around at the moment.

This is true, i was aware and had seen Pavlik fight several times before he was being touted as something special.. the way he handled Zertuche did indeed portray what was coming to the MW division

I like the fact that he is a quiet humble guy and not really into all the trash talk

When you talk about someone brutally KTFO the #1 contender & champ, back to back, when he was the dog in both fights and neither Miranda nor Taylor ever having been really hurt in a fight....

                  That's something rare...
