Will MAYWEATHER'S record ever be duplicated?

Whatever you think of Floyd Joy Sinclair Mayweather, Jr., he did something that was quite amazing: he was on Ring Magazine's pound-for-pound list FOR TEN CONSECUTIVE YEARS. And "retired" on top.

And, oh, by the way, Ring Magazine is as objective an observer/evaluator as we have in this sport.

If anybody is going to accomplish this feat, he will have to do several things:

    1) Start his career early
    2) Face top competition early
    3) Face top competition consistently
    4) Look good in beating that top competition decisively
    5) Win. You must keep winning
    6) Avoid a bad night. If you lose, it must be close...and to top competition.
    7) Have a long career... ten years, remember?
    8) Get out of the game before your skills start to erode.

Who do you think is most likely to match this feat?? For comparison purposes, manny Pacquiao has been on the list for under FIVE years, and Joe Calzaghe has been on the list for less than TWO.

Floyd was the the List for TEN. Straight.

Love him or hate him it is impossible to deny that Floyd has an amazing amount of skill and boxing talent. Fighters like him are very special and do not come along very often.

I'll never worship Mayweather. If he had half the courage of Abraham or Calzaghe he might've been a much better product.

You're right, fighters who aren't as talented make for much better fighters and create unquestionable legacies.

All the talent in the world means jack **** if you're not going to put it to use.

Spare me the phony lesson you're going to try and use. I know of 30 and 35.

Hmm... it would be hard for anyone to do the things that floyd did... because like it or not he has skill and talent... Your gonna need alot of both to find someone who can match up to that and win a title in what was it?...umm less than 2 years into his career.

Good post. Wow! 10 years. Good research also. Now cotto and margs fans will come out of the wood work, and talk about who he didn't face at welter lol. But lets see how long those guys stay ranked around the top. What boggles the mind is they act like cotto is duran, and margs is hagler or something...like floyd feared those guys. lol That is so comical to me. I could see if they didn't have apparent flaws like those guys, but what they say about floyd is ridiculous. Their resumes don't even come close to floyd's. Floyd is older than thse guys. He has had a full career. He just talked a lot of crap and cotto and margs fans didn't like that he left not fighting their man. Don't worry, when the dust settles, Floyd will be back to school who ever is on top.

Not sure you can say he didn't put it to use....

I have watched the majority of his fights and he seemed to use what he possesses reasonably well to me.
