Valero looked technically sound, but it doesn't mean much because his opponent was far from his level. Since 2005 Shamidas opponents only had a combined record of 21-28!

Yeah but Shimada was a real cagy veteran, who was evasive as mongoose. Valero did what he was supposed to. I mean if Zaghe can get slack for fighting a guy like Hopkins. Valero should get props for koing one that fights like Bhop.

          Ahaha, fair enough.

Valero is my favorite current fighter, and I was glad to see him look much improved defensively and with his jab.

I was not impressed. A weak looking right jab followed by a powerful left which missed 9 times out of 10. His opponent didn't seem to be interested in doing anything other than holding on, but I'd still expect Valero to finish him off sooner considering the power that he apparently has.

As for the finish, if they'd had the ref from Jones-Griffin I, it could've been very different. Valero was lucky that he didn't get a point deducted at least.

Referee did not say stop and his knee didn't hit the canvas. Protect yourself at all times.

I refuse to give props to anyone that fights like Hopkins.

I meant props to Valero not Shimada who fought like Hopkins.

Valero dont impress me, he is a southpaw with good power which I think is overated based on his opponents. Put him in their with Juan Manuel Marquez caliber and he gets taken apart. Id like to see him fight a Rocky Juarez to see what he is made of but so far I dont see him doing much against the elite.
