Gomez beat Alex Arthur (the guy who picked up Guzman's vacant title after the visa issue/dodgy Warren activity). At the time Arthur was seen as a rising star and Gomez as a journeyman. After Gomez pulled off the upset the claim was that he had been good all along but only recently started to put the effort in. Then it turned out that actually he wasn't that good after all, it's just that Arthur wasn't that good either.

Gomez has never fought at lightweight before and is too small for Khan. Because of his style, Gomez has also taken a lot of punishment in his career and seems to be shot. He's English/Irish and Gomez is not his birth name.
