Malignaggi - 7-1 underdog going into the fight and has received two gift decisions in his last two fights. Also not known as anywhere near a big puncher, he had Cotto hurt.

Quintana - we all saw his last fight.

    Urkal - lol

Judah - who hasn't beaten this guy

Mosley - was a great fighter, but his last big win was against Oscar in '03. A fight most thought he lost.

Gomez - that's right, Alfonso Gomez.
What's the point of your thread? That Cotto hasn't fought anybody and Margarito is his 1st real challenge?

I always ask the question, "Who would you have rather him fought?" Nobody can seem to answer that question...

If I recall mad people here were picking Zab & Mosley to beat Cotto. I wonder what the excuse will be after July 26th (Crabs...)

i can agree with that. not taking nothing from ssm, but he is past it, and no one up to this point he has fought will have been this tough an oppt. a few may have been more skilled than marg, yes, but the toughness, and never quit in marg is something cotto will not have seen before. i think he will find out alot about cotto in this fight!

No, no more tests for Cotto, he's old and experienced enough. I say go out there and make the best of it. He should beat Margarito with little trouble just because he's so much faster. Now Mayweather is out of the game i think Cotto will run out of opponents soon. Lets see, there is Berto, who is still too fresh, Hoya who will wisely avoid Cotto and pick Trinidad up as if to call us all ******, because that fight wouldn't mean anything since neither of them would go on to do anything really, Williams could probably beat Cotto if he trains hard just because he's fast enough for Cotto and Cotto is open to hooks when he goes to the body, he likes to wait to see the effect of his punches specially when he lands power punches, that will cost him eventually. But Williams is being rushed to middleweight (can you believe this ****, talk about a waste of talent, i hope they don't regret it). Down the road i see Gamboa becoming either an hard hitting gatekeeper or a star depending on how he evolves, for now he looks great but i know little about him as of now.

Just to be clear with the thread starter what you did to Cotto's resume can be done to every fighter to ever lace up the gloves. Having said that I'm from the school of thought that believes Cotto's lackluster performances at 140 against Torres and Corley were in part because of the severe strain he put on his body trying to make weight and he is facing the best something severely lacking in this sport nowadays. I can't comfortably pick a winner in this fight and I think the majority of boxing writers will agree. However in this forum 99 percent of Mexicans think Marg will **** Cotto and say he's an overhyped, chinless, midget who has no idea what it is to face a guy "with no regard for human life". Whatever that means. On the flipside 99% of my people are picking Cotto because Marg is a ****, 1 dimensional WW bum with 5, count em 5 losses who would have 6 if it wasn't for Clottey getting injured. They're logic is laughable considering they're degrading their fighters performance should they win or lose and because it's simply not true. Mosley was Cotto's first big test IMO and Marg will be his biggest test. Mosley is the better fighter but Marg's style in addition to his size, height, strength and wingspan pose a more dangerous fight to Cotto than Mosley did. Styles make fight, nuff said. 3 of Marg's losses I choose to discount because those were all before he turned 20 years of age. I'm predicting Cotto to win by UD in an action packed fight but again I'm not comfortable with that prediction just my best guess the reason being I see a ton of different scenarios playing out. 1 thing I do acknowledge is this is Cotto's first fight with a legitimate, strong natural WW and this will answer a lot of questions I have as to how relevant he is in this division and obviously how good he is.

mosley is past his prime and hasnt won a big fight in 5 years. he has done nothing impressive as a welterweight. he was a great fighter many years ago but now hes just a name and a shell of his old self. margarito is in his prime right now and he has more stamina a better chin and way more power than mosley. margarito will clearly be the best opponent cotto has faced by far!!

My point is that most every fighters resume can be questioned.
